This lesson will show you how to insert a video file onto our Keynote canvas.
When to use
Adding video to a slide can do wonders for the quality of your presentation. In this lesson, we’ll walk through how to add a video and make adjustments to that video to make it look great.
Instructions
There are two ways to insert a video file in Keynote:
- by clicking the Media button on the toolbar
- by dragging and dropping an audio file from our computer
To preview a video file, we simply click on the “Play” button located in the middle of the video preview.
Selecting the video clip will adjust our formatting pane allowing us to:
- add a style to a video like we can for images
- add a border to our video
- add a drop shadow to our video
- add a reflection to our video
- adjust the opacity
Trimming (or cropping) a video is easy. We:
- select the video
- adjust the trim settings on the formatting pane
A poster frame is the static frame that will show before and after a video is played. We adjust this:
- select the video
- use the “Poster Image” slider to select the poster frame
There are two repeat options:
- loop
- loop back and forth
The “Loop Back and Forth” option allows us to create a seamless video loop without harsh breaks.
When the “Start movie on click” option is checked, the movie will only play when we advance the slide deck.
To add a little extra style to a video, we can rotate our video clip:
- select the video file
- adjust the rotate option on the formatting pane
