Clear Purpose
Everything we do has a reason or a purpose. The stronger the purpose, the more drive we have to be successful.
When to use
Always make sure your goals have a clear purpose, so your team can get behind the goal and make it successful.
Instructions
When defining your goals, you need to have a clear purpose.
Why do you want to achieve this goal or get this desired outcome? What is the benefit to you when you meet this goal? What is the benefit to the team? What is the benefit to the company? What is the benefit to the client?
Purpose is going to be the motivating factor for you as a leader and for the team to achieve the desired outcome.
We can get behind goals and movements that we align with. So, go back to your company’s core values and make sure the goals are aligned.
Keep in mind the benefits to you, your team, your company and to the client when creating the goals.
Login to download- 00:04 In this video, we're going to look at your clear purpose.
- 00:09 Your clear purpose, what does that mean?
- 00:11 Well, why do you wanna achieve this goal?
- 00:15 Why do you want to get this desired outcome?
- 00:20 Okay? So you're gonna wanna look at a few
- 00:21 different things.
- 00:22 Number one, what is the benefit to you when you achieve this goal?
- 00:27 What's that benefit?
- 00:29 Number two, what's the benefit to the team?
- 00:33 And number three, what's the benefit to the company?
- 00:39 And number four, what's the benefit to your clients?
- 00:45 Okay?
- 00:45 And finally, you wanna ask yourself,
- 00:47 what are the values that guide this business, or this project, or this goal?
- 00:52 What are those core values?
- 00:54 Integrity, customer service, whatever those values are for you.
- 00:59 Go back to your mission statements,
- 01:00 go back to your values, if you don't have one, put one together.
- 01:03 Because your purpose is going to be that motivating factor.
- 01:08 Right? This is what's going to get the buy-in
- 01:11 from not only your team, but for yourself, right?
- 01:15 When there's something you really want,
- 01:17 think about anything you've accomplished in your life, anything big, right?
- 01:22 There was always some driving purpose behind it.
- 01:26 Okay? So
- 01:27 as humans, we can get behind goals and movements that we align with.
- 01:32 Right? Where we align with the why.
- 01:35 Something bigger than us individually is extra powerful.
- 01:39 So this is how movements are started, right?
- 01:41 So with Martin Luther King Jr or Gandhi, when people follow them and
- 01:46 join their movements, it's bigger than us as individuals.
- 01:50 It's even bigger than us as leaders.
- 01:54 So the most powerful purpose is bigger than the individual,
- 01:57 the team or the company.
- 01:59 It's for the greater good.
- 02:00 So when you look at the Civil Rights Movement in America, or
- 02:04 India's freedom struggle, these were purposes that were really, really big.
- 02:09 So you wanna go through,
- 02:10 you wanna ask yourself, what are the benefits of this goal?
- 02:13 Why do you wanna achieve this goal?
- 02:14 What are the benefits to you,
- 02:15 the benefits to your team, the benefits to the company, the client?
- 02:20 And based it on your business' values, right?
- 02:24 Or your project's values or your goal's values.
- 02:27 Okay? Because that's what's gonna help people
- 02:29 connect that you're leading.
- 02:32 All right, you guys got this, I'll see you in the next video.
