Quick reference
Create a Likert Scale Question
Create a Likert Scale question and add it to the survey.
When to use
We use a Likert scale when we want to add a series of statements to a form and have the respondee select an option that falls within a scale e.g. from Excellent to Poor.
Instructions
A Likert scale question is commonly used in performance reviews. The respondee will be posed a question or a statement and asked to select a response. Some scales commonly used in Likert scale questions include:
- Highly Satisfied, Satisfied, Neutral, Dissatisfied, Highly Unsatisfied - e.g. "How satisfied are you with..."
- Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, Strongly Disagree - e.g. "How much do you agree or disagree with the following statement..."
- Extremely Likely, Likely, Neither Likely nor Unlikely, Unlikely, Extremely Unlikely - e.g. "How likely is it that you would..."
Add a Likert Question
- Click Add New.
- Click the drop-down arrow to open up more options and choose Likert.
- Type a question.
- Add a Subtitle for context (optional).
- Click in Option 1 and define your scale e.g. 'Strongly Agree'.
- Click in Option 2 and type 'Agree'.
- Click in Option 3 and type 'Neutral'.
- Click in Option 4 and type 'Disagree'.
- Click in Option 5 and type 'Strongly Disagree'.
Now we can add in our statements.
- Click in Statement 1 and type the first statement.
- Click in Statement 2 and type the second statement.
- Click Add statement to add more.
Preview the Form
- Click the Preview button to preview the form.
- 00:04 In this lesson, we're going to take a look at how we can add in a Likert question.
- 00:09 Now, you might be wondering what exactly is a Likert question?
- 00:12 If you've ever had a review at work,
- 00:15 you've probably used the Likert scale before.
- 00:18 And a Likert scale is where you're given a question and then you're asked to
- 00:23 select highly satisfied, satisfied, okay, not satisfied, so on and so forth.
- 00:29 That is a Likert scale, and we can add those into our customer survey.
- 00:35 So let's scroll down, and
- 00:37 Likert scale is underneath the More question types dropdown.
- 00:42 We're going to choose Likert.
- 00:44 So now, we can add in our question, how would you rate your online and
- 00:48 check out experience with Happy Flame?
- 00:51 So we're trying to get some customer feedback about the customer journey.
- 00:56 Is it easy?
- 00:57 What works?
- 00:58 What doesn't work?
- 00:59 Now, notice here we can add a subtitle.
- 01:03 Again, that's if you want to give a little bit more information about the context of
- 01:06 this question.
- 01:07 We're not going to add one in for the time being.
- 01:09 But also notice, again, we have a bit of AI at play here.
- 01:13 So it's giving me some options that I could possibly add into this Likert scale.
- 01:18 Now, in this case, we're not going to use those, we're going to define our own.
- 01:22 So Option 1, we're going to say Strongly Agree.
- 01:28 Option 2, we're going to say Agree.
- 01:32 Option 3 is going to be Neutral.
- 01:35 Option 4, Disagree.
- 01:40 And finally, Option 5, Strongly Disagree.
- 01:45 So now we can add in our statements.
- 01:48 So let's say the website was easy to navigate.
- 01:55 And I'm going to add in three more statements in the same way.
- 01:59 So now, we have our statements and we have our scale.
- 02:03 Let's click on the Preview button to preview the form.
- 02:07 And we can now go in and
- 02:08 make our selections depending on how we felt the purchasing process went.
- 02:13 And it's worth noting that if we jump to the Mobile view,
- 02:16 this is what a Likert scale question looks like.
- 02:19 Now, in general, the Likert scale is wider than the actual mobile phone screen, so
- 02:23 we do have a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom, so we can scroll across and
- 02:27 still make our selections.
- 02:29 So that is how a Likert scale question works when you're using Microsoft Forms.
