Add and Reorder Form Sections
Add sections to a form and manage which questions are included within.
When to use
We add sections to a form to give it structure and group questions of similar type together.
Instructions
Add Sections to a Form
Sections can help us organize questions in a form. They let us group together questions of similar type underneath a heading.
- Click in the header of the question.
- Click the drop-down next to the question types.
- Click Section.
- Name the section 'Communications'.
- Add a subtitle (optional).
- Click in question 2.
- Click the drop-down next to the question types.
- Click Section.
- Name the section 'Our Product Range'.
- Add a subtitle (optional).
- Repeat to add more sections.
The key takeaway here is to make sure you are clicked in the correct spot when adding a section.
Section Options
- Click the three dots next to 'Section 2'.
From here we can duplicate the section, remove the section, or move the section.
Hints & tips
- When removing sections, we can choose to just remove the section or remove the section and all of the questions in the section.
- 00:04 We can add some structure to our form by adding sections to
- 00:08 group together questions of similar type.
- 00:12 Sometimes adding sections gives your form a more logical flow and
- 00:16 makes it easier for the responder to read and interpret.
- 00:20 So let me show you how to add sections because it is super simple.
- 00:23 So we're working in our customer satisfaction survey again, and
- 00:28 maybe I want these first two questions to be in their own section.
- 00:32 Now, what I find with these sections,
- 00:34 particularly when you're first learning how to add them,
- 00:37 is that it can be a little bit awkward to know where to click to add the section.
- 00:42 Let me show you what I mean.
- 00:43 If I click on this first question and then click the dropdown just here,
- 00:47 this is where we're going to find the section option.
- 00:50 Now, if I were to select Section just here,
- 00:53 it's going to add not only a Section 2, but also a Section 1 at the top.
- 00:58 Now, that's fine, I want this first question to be in Section 1, but
- 01:02 I also want this question down here to be in Section 1 and
- 01:06 not in Section 2 where it is currently.
- 01:08 So where we have Section 2, let's click the three dots.
- 01:12 We have Remove section.
- 01:13 I'm going to say just the section, not the questions.
- 01:16 Now instead, what I'm going to do is I'm going to click in the header area up here,
- 01:21 and then I'm going to add my section.
- 01:24 So this section will now be at the top underneath the banner,
- 01:28 which is exactly what I want.
- 01:30 So I'm happy with it being called Section 1, and
- 01:34 this section is going to be about communications.
- 01:37 I'm going to add a subtitle, and then when I click away,
- 01:41 we now have Section 1, it's related to communications.
- 01:45 And then we have our first question, how did you find out about Happy Flame?
- 01:49 And then we have our second question which is related, if you select Other in
- 01:52 the previous question, how did you hear about Happy Flame?
- 01:55 So now I want to add another section in between questions 2 and 3.
- 02:02 So I need to select question 2, then click the dropdown, then click Section.
- 02:08 And now I can add in my new section header, Our Product Range.
- 02:13 This time, I'm not going to enter a subtitle, I'm just going to click away,
- 02:16 and then we have the next question.
- 02:18 So the key takeaway here is make sure that you're clicked in the correct
- 02:22 spot before you add the section,
- 02:23 otherwise it can add it somewhere that you didn't want it to be.
- 02:27 Now, it is worth noting that with these sections, once you've added them, for
- 02:31 example, Section 2, if we click the three dots again, we can remove the section,
- 02:36 as we've already seen, but we can also move the section.
- 02:39 Now, this will just show you all of the sections that you have in your form, and
- 02:43 it will allow you just to move them up or move them down.
- 02:46 So if I move Our Product Range up a level and click Done,
- 02:50 you can see what that does.
- 02:53 Our Product range is now Section 1 in this form,
- 02:55 it's the first thing that they're going to see.
- 02:58 Now, I don't actually want this, so let's go to Move section,
- 03:01 and I'm just going to move that back down and click on Done.
- 03:05 But that's pretty much how easy it is to add sections to our
- 03:08 form to give it a little bit of structure.
