- Click on the Format Painter icon on the Home Menu
- Highlight some other text on the page
- Notice how the text you just selected has the same format at the original text
Hints & tips
- If you double-click on the Format Painter icon, you can use it over and over again, until you click it again.
- 00:04 Let me show you how you would copy the format from text on to other text.
- 00:10 So I'm going to come over here with these cities.
- 00:13 And I'm going to highlight them and I'll make them bold.
- 00:17 So you can see now.
- 00:19 The actual bullets are the stars and the text is in bold.
- 00:24 Well, what if I want the states over here that have the same format?
- 00:28 Well, here's a great way we can do that.
- 00:30 It's called the Format Painter.
- 00:32 So I'm going to go ahead and highlight that text,
- 00:35 whose format I want to copy.
- 00:37 And then we'll use the Format Painter over here on the Home menu.
- 00:41 So click on Format Painter,
- 00:43 and then you highlight the text where you want to copy that too.
- 00:47 And now notice how they have the same bullet and they're in bold, okay?
- 00:54 So I really like the Format Painter because it just gives you a very quick
- 00:59 way to copy the format from one selection of text to another.
- 01:03 Now here's how to make even more efficient.
- 01:06 So let's say I want to use that same format.
- 01:11 So I'm going to highlight what I want to copy or
- 01:14 you know the text of whose format I want to copy.
- 01:19 And then this time, I'm going to double click where it says Format Painter,
- 01:23 double click, and that'll lock it in place.
- 01:25 So then I can highlight this text and
- 01:28 then let's say we'll do these down here and this one.
- 01:34 See because I double clicked on the Word Format Painter,
- 01:37 I can just use that over and over again.
- 01:41 As you can see.
- 01:42 Now if I want to turn that off, I'll just click on the Format Painter again.
- 01:48 So if you just highlight the text and click on the Format Painter once,
- 01:52 then you can use it one time.
- 01:54 However, if you highlight the text, whose format you want to copy and
- 01:58 then double click on the Format Painter.
- 02:00 Then you can just keep on using it over and over again.
- 02:03 Until you click on the Format Painter again to turn it off.
- 02:07 Now also if you highlight the text, you'll get the mini toolbar,
- 02:11 and the Format Painter can be found there as well, all right.
- 02:15 Now, as far as deleting text, I can just highlight the text and
- 02:21 then we can click on the X over here.
- 02:25 Or you can just hit your Delete key on your keyboard.
- 02:28 No problem.
- 02:29 And of course,
- 02:30 if you ever felt that you deleted the wrong thing we can always undo.
- 02:33 So I'm even going to undo that and get it back again.
- 02:36 So you can highlight the text and pick on delete here or pick on your delete key.
- 02:40 Also, you can delete the container.
- 02:43 So if I right click in that container.
- 02:45 Then I can delete the entire container as you can see, or use that x or that x.
- 02:51 So you can hide it the text and delete that.
- 02:53 You can hide it the container and delete it.
- 02:55 Now as far as saving, what happens is OneNote saves for you automatically.
- 03:02 So notice, there's no save icon even on the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 03:07 And if it took in the File menu, there's no save.
- 03:10 So it actually says for you automatically.
- 03:13 So in that lesson, I showed you how to copy the format of your text.
- 03:17 How to delete text, or to delete a container, and
- 03:21 then also have the saving is pretty much automatic.
