Insert a Screen Clipping
This lesson will show you how to insert a screen clipping from any other program into OneNote.
When to use
A screen clipping from another program can really demonstrate a certain point or idea more clearly.
Instructions
- Go into the OneNote program
- Go into the Quick Notes notebook
- Click on the new page icon on the right
- Open up any other file in any other program on your computer
- Go back to OneNote
- Click on the Insert Menu
- Click on Screen Clipping icon - this will take you back to the other program
- Use your mouse to highlight any part of the screen
- When you lift your finger from the mouse, whatever you selected from the other program will be copied and appear in OneNote
- 00:01 Let me go to a different page here.
- 00:06 And let me show you how to add maybe a screen print from a different program.
- 00:11 So, I'm going to call this page Screen Print.
- 00:15 Okay, so, what you do is you go to any other program.
- 00:20 It could be maybe an Internet browser or Word or PowerPoint or something like that.
- 00:27 So, let me go to the Internet.
- 00:29 So, let's say, I'll go up to disney.com.
- 00:38 Okay and I'm going to go ahead and click on OneNote.
- 00:45 Now watch, I'll pick on Insert and then Screen Clipping.
- 00:50 It's going to go back to the most recent window, whatever that was.
- 00:54 So, now I'm going to highlight the guy here.
- 00:59 And now when I lift my finger, whatever I highlight is going to go into OneNote.
- 01:06 So, it could have been any program.
- 01:08 It could have been any program at all.
- 01:10 I just happened to use the Internet that time.
- 01:12 So, let's go back, you open up that window first.
- 01:17 So, let me scroll down and find something else here.
- 01:20 So, okay, in this case I'll use these pictures.
- 01:24 So, I have that on my screen, right?
- 01:27 I'll go back into OneNote.
- 01:29 Let me make another page here.
- 01:31 Okay, and I'll say Another Screen Print as a page name.
- 01:40 Now, of course, this can go on an existing page, as well.
- 01:43 So, I'm going to pick on the Insert menu, and I'll pick on Screen Clipping.
- 01:49 It goes back to the most recent window, whatever that is.
- 01:53 It could have been Word or PowerPoint or anything else here.
- 01:56 I just happened to use the Internet as my most recent program.
- 01:59 I'm going to highlight the things that I want, any part of that screen.
- 02:04 When I lift my finger, that image, whatever you highlight,
- 02:08 is now back in OneNote.
- 02:10 So, that's an excellent way to capture anything that you might have
- 02:15 from a different program.
- 02:18 Here, it did put the date timestamp on that one automatically, as we can see.
