Hints & tips
- You can also choose Insert Spreadsheet, or Insert Table or Chart, and then you will see the actual data from the Excel Spreadsheet in OneNote, rather than just the icon.
- 00:04 Let's talk about how we can insert an Excel spreadsheet into OneNote.
- 00:09 So in this case, you can see I'm back into my quick notes.
- 00:13 And I'm just going to pick on the Insert menu, and
- 00:15 it does say the word Spreadsheet there.
- 00:18 So I'll click on Spreadsheet, and then we'll use an existing Excel spreadsheet.
- 00:22 Or of course I can make a new spreadsheet from here as well.
- 00:25 But I think the point here is to use an existing Excel spreadsheet,
- 00:28 and then you would point to an Excel spreadsheet on your computer.
- 00:32 So it could be any Excel spreadsheet.
- 00:35 So I'll pick on this spreadsheet, and I'll pick on Insert.
- 00:40 So I can either attach it as a file or insert a spreadsheet or
- 00:44 insert a chart or a table from that spreadsheet.
- 00:47 Let's see what it looks like when I attach the file.
- 00:50 And then you get that icon that we've seen in previous lessons.
- 00:54 So I'll just double click on that, and then
- 00:57 that'll open up that Excel spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel, as you can see.
- 01:02 So that's one way to do it, let's try another way.
- 01:05 I'm back in OneNote now, I'll pick on Spreadsheet under the Insert menu, and
- 01:09 I'll do an existing spreadsheet, and we'll use the same one.
- 01:13 So I'll go back and use the same one once again,
- 01:16 there's the basic math, and I'll pick on Insert.
- 01:20 This time let's try to insert spreadsheet and
- 01:23 see what that one looks like.
- 01:26 Now you're going to get that window, and then if I scroll down,
- 01:30 here it actually put the content of that Excel spreadsheet in my OneNote.
- 01:36 So here you see the actual text from that Excel spreadsheet directly into
- 01:40 the OneNote,
- 01:41 whereas this one when you double click on the icon it opens up that file.
- 01:45 So that was kind of interesting.
- 01:47 Let's try another one.
- 01:49 I'll pick on Spreadsheet again, and I'll do an existing spreadsheet.
- 01:53 This time let me try to get a table.
- 01:56 So let me go to a different spreadsheet here, I'll pick on the student file.
- 02:02 So you can use any Excel spreadsheet that might be on your computer, and
- 02:06 I'll pick on Insert.
- 02:08 This time I'll say Insert a Chart or a Table.
- 02:11 So now you would have to have a chart from your Excel spreadsheet or
- 02:16 a formatted table to make this one work.
- 02:19 So now it'll show me all,
- 02:20 these are actually all the different sheets from that Excel workbook.
- 02:25 So let's say I wanted to get,
- 02:27 we have a bunch of different sheets in this particular workbook.
- 02:30 Let's say I want to get the shippers table, and
- 02:34 I just picked on that sheet name.
- 02:37 I'll click on OK.
- 02:38 And now it's going to put that directly into my OneNote, as you can see.
- 02:44 So that one you would use if you just want to use a specific sheet from
- 02:49 that workbook.
- 02:50 Where as the other one that we did in sort of the entire workbook here, and
- 02:55 the other one that we did just has the icon.
- 02:58 And when I double click on that icon, it would open up that Excel file.
- 03:01 So now using the Insert menu we picked on the Spreadsheet, and
- 03:05 I used an existing Excel spreadsheet.
- 03:08 Now you can see how to insert a Excel spreadsheet directly into OneNote.
