Quick reference
File Ribbon – New
Easily find pre-designed templates in MS Publisher.
When to use
Rather than designing your own publications from scratch, let MS Publisher help you with the catalogue of pre-designed templates. This is a time-saving feature that you have access to free-of-charge and with no copyright infringement (because you paid for the MS Publisher program on your computer.)
Instructions
- Click the File ribbon, then click New.
- The Search box appears at the top of the screen.
- In the Search box, type the topic to find: “brochure” or “newsletter".
- Notice all instances of that topic are displayed.
- To open a template, double click it.
- To pin it to the top for future use, click the tiny push pin on the corner of the thumbnail image.
- Edit the document as necessary, save and print.
- 00:00 All right, continuing on with the file ribbon.
- 00:08 On the top left, click on File, but this time, we're going to look at the word New.
- 00:14 When you click New, here you'll see the templates that are available to design.
- 00:19 So basically, instead of starting from scratch, in the file new section you can
- 00:24 discover premade templates that are available and easily customized.
- 00:28 These are all free.
- 00:29 You no need to pay for any of this as a gift for using Microsoft.
- 00:33 You get to use all of these.
- 00:35 Well what if just scrolling through you're not finding what you want,
- 00:38 you really have an idea of what you want.
- 00:40 Let's just say you want to create a newsletter.
- 00:43 Notice up on top it says search for online templates.
- 00:46 When I click that, I'll go ahead and type the word newsletter.
- 00:50 I spell it right, I might have a better chance of finding it and hit enter.
- 00:53 Now notice it's searching for thousands.
- 00:56 It found that really quick.
- 00:57 But be patient.
- 00:58 If it's a first-time looking it's got to connect to online and
- 01:01 load up the pictures of these.
- 01:03 These are some really nice newsletters.
- 01:05 You can scroll through and look.
- 01:06 And over here on the right-hand side I've got a category, newsletters 35.
- 01:10 Business items, 9, Labels, 6, and these aren't newsletters,
- 01:13 these are just styles that you can use in Publisher.
- 01:15 But the Newsletters, it says 35 of those.
- 01:18 I'll go ahead and click that just to reset what I'm looking at.
- 01:21 Now at any point, if you like one of these, you simply click it and
- 01:25 it will download.
- 01:26 I'm going to go ahead and
- 01:27 float my mouse on this because I want to show you a nice little feature in here.
- 01:31 It's a cute little push pin at the bottom.
- 01:33 That little push pin, if you like this particular one,
- 01:35 I'm going to click that push pin and pin it to the list so
- 01:39 the next time I come up here it'll be at the top of the list.
- 01:42 I won't have to search for that one again.
- 01:44 So right now I'm just going to target two or three of these.
- 01:47 This particular format I used this one recently.
- 01:49 It was great for kind of a Christmas newsletter, and
- 01:53 I kind of like this one as well.
- 01:54 So I'll go ahead and pin these three to the top.
- 01:57 All right, I'm going to go hit my Back button.
- 02:00 I'm to my run screen again, I've got just a blank sheet of paper on here.
- 02:04 I'm going to go find those three that I just pinned.
- 02:06 I'm going to click on File, then click on New, and
- 02:09 shockingly right at the top, happen to be the three that I had push-pins for.
- 02:13 Notice the pins are pointed down now, and not on the side.
- 02:16 Come below, see, they're on their side, want me to push it, but
- 02:19 the ones the ones that are pointed down, those are the ones I like.
- 02:22 So, I'll go ahead and click on this one.
- 02:25 It's downloading my template called newsletter green wave design, interesting.
- 02:30 And there we have it.
- 02:32 On my screen is a very free newsletter that I just downloaded from online.
- 02:38 And it's going to be interesting to look at this.
- 02:40 Notice the red.
- 02:41 They probably used Lipsum, Lorem Ipsum, which is just fake text,
- 02:45 Latin text, just placeholder text.
- 02:47 So that's why it all looks misspelled on here.
- 02:50 But it's obviously a two page, folded design, and so we have the front outside
- 02:55 and then the inside, and then you would just, like a newspaper, fold this in half.
- 02:59 Interesting design, very good.
- 03:01 And this is how you learn things about Publisher.
- 03:03 You download something, kind of examine it and
- 03:06 take a look at I wonder how they did this, kind of very cool.
- 03:09 Anyway, that was found under file, under new, go ahead and do a search for
- 03:13 whatever you like when you find them hit the little push pins so
- 03:16 they're saved up to the top, and off you go.
