Hints & tips
- Emojis can be added to messages using keyboard shortcuts. For example, to post a smiley face, use the shortcut :-). To post a laughing emoji, type [rofl].
- 00:04 Emojis, animated GIFs, and stickers are a great way to
- 00:08 express yourself and inject some fun into a conversation.
- 00:13 And the good news is Teams has been updated recently to include a new
- 00:18 emoji gallery of over 800 emojis, including some that you can personalize.
- 00:25 So let's take a look at how we can add some emojis into our messages.
- 00:29 Now for this I'm going to jump into one of my pinned channels.
- 00:34 So, let's go into the marketing channel for Northwind Traders.
- 00:38 I'm going to start a new conversation, so let's click that button and
- 00:42 I'm going to type a simple message.
- 00:44 Now if I want to jazz this message up a little bit,
- 00:47 I could choose to add an emoji.
- 00:49 And emojis are something that most of us are probably used to using when we're
- 00:53 texting with our friends or texting with family members.
- 00:57 And emojis are really there to convey an emotion,
- 01:00 which is sometimes hard to do when you're just typing words on the screen.
- 01:04 Now if you take a look at the icons underneath where we've typed this message,
- 01:09 you'll notice that we have one when we hover over it that says emoji.
- 01:13 So if we click on this it's going to open up the emoji gallery, and
- 01:17 as I mentioned we have over 800 emojis in this gallery.
- 01:20 Now they are all divided down into different groups, so
- 01:24 we have some smileys at the top and our categories are at the bottom.
- 01:28 So if I click on this little hand this is going to show me a gallery full of
- 01:32 different hand gestures.
- 01:34 We have a people gallery, animals and nature, food, so on and so forth.
- 01:39 So a really big selection of different emojis to use.
- 01:42 Now if you know the name of the emoji that you're looking for,
- 01:45 you can simply type it into the search bar at the top.
- 01:48 So if I was to type smile, it's going to return a gallery of
- 01:53 all of the emojis that have smile somewhere in the name.
- 01:57 And to add an emoji to a message, you can simply click on the emoji that you want,
- 02:02 and it's going to put that in there.
- 02:03 So very simple and straightforward.
- 02:06 So let's send this message through to the team.
- 02:08 Now I can see there that Jen has replied that she's nervous about the event
- 02:13 tomorrow night, maybe she's doing a big presentation.
- 02:16 Now maybe I want to send an emoji back to Jen using a keyboard shortcut instead.
- 02:22 Now remember when it comes to keyboard shortcuts if we click on reply,
- 02:26 most of us know some of the regular keyboard shortcuts for emojis.
- 02:30 Most of us know that colon, dash, close bracket is going to give us a smiley face,
- 02:35 but there are lots of other keyboard shortcuts for emojis as well.
- 02:40 For example, if I was to type rofl in brackets,
- 02:43 it's going to give me that rolling on the floor laughing emoji.
- 02:48 So if there are emojis that you'd like to use all the time, it's definitely worth
- 02:52 knowing the keyboard shortcuts, it makes the whole process a lot quicker.
- 02:55 Now, other things that we can add into our messages aside from emojis to add some
- 02:59 personality are stickers.
- 03:01 And if we take a look just under Jen's response you can see that this
- 03:06 icon just here is the sticker icon.
- 03:08 So if we click this again it's going to open up a gallery of
- 03:12 different types of stickers that we could send.
- 03:15 And some of these are customizable, for example the memes.
- 03:19 So if we take a look at this very popular meme from a couple of years ago you can
- 03:24 add your own top caption and bottom caption and then send that through.
- 03:29 And all of the stickers again are divided down into different categories and
- 03:34 a lot of these are editable.
- 03:36 Notice that if we hover over any of these,
- 03:39 we have a little pencil icon in the bottom corner.
- 03:41 If we click it, we can then edit that particular sticker.
- 03:45 So if I want this sticker to say something else other than 404 error not found,
- 03:50 I can come in here and edit the text.
- 03:52 So look out for
- 03:53 that little pencil icon in the corner if you want to edit the sticker.
- 03:57 Now I'm going to go to the Clippy category, good old Mr. Clippy we haven't
- 04:02 seen him for a while, and let's just let Jen know that I'm here for her.
- 04:07 So I'm going to send this through, and then I can click on the paper plane or
- 04:12 I can press Enter.
- 04:13 Another thing I could possibly add, is a GIF, and
- 04:16 again we have a little giphy icon just underneath this message.
- 04:20 So let's click on GIF, and
- 04:21 this works pretty much the same way as the other galleries.
- 04:25 We can go through and search for a particular GIF, and we simply click to add
- 04:29 that gif to our message, and then we can simply send that through.
- 04:33 So all of these things are very straightforward.
- 04:37 So just be aware of the different fun little things that you can add to your
- 04:42 messages to convey tone a little bit better, to add personality, and
- 04:47 inject a sense of fun into your day.
