Quick reference
Loop Components
Create content and send it to channel members via chat that everyone can edit and collaborate on.
When to use
We use Loop Components whenever we want to collaborate with team members on content without having to email files back and forth.
Instructions
Loop Components let us create content that we can collaborate on with colleagues in real-time inside a message. It's worth noting that Loop Components are only available in private chats and we create Loop Components from a template.
- Click on Chat.
- Click the New conversation button or Reply to a previous conversation.
- Click the Loop components icon underneath the message area.
- Choose a template from the list e.g. Bulleted List.
The list will be given a generic name of Loop list and will be in draft status until we post the list.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to People in your organization with the link can edit and choose your link settings.
If we want others to edit the list inline, ensure you have the Allow editing box selected.
- Click Apply.
- Add a Title for the Loop Component.
- Type out the bulleted list.
- Click Send.
Notice the bulleted list is no longer in draft status and the loop component has been renamed to match the title of the list.
Once the message has been sent, the recipient(s) and the sender can both edit the list in real-time.
Hints & tips
- Loop components are only available in private chats.
- Loop components get saved automatically to OneDrive.
- 00:03 Have you ever sent content in chat that you wish everybody could edit?
- 00:08 So you didn't have to keep going backwards and forwards via messages.
- 00:13 Well, now, you can with a brand new teams feature called Loop components.
- 00:19 So I'm back in my private chat with Jen.
- 00:23 And note that Loop components is only available in private chats,
- 00:27 it's not available in channel discussions.
- 00:30 So what I've said to Jen here is how about we brainstorm
- 00:35 some ways to keep yourself calm before a big event?
- 00:39 And she's replied to me that she thinks that is a great idea.
- 00:43 So what I could do here is I could add a Loop component and
- 00:47 maybe create a bulleted list that we can both collaborate on together with ideas.
- 00:53 And that's exactly what a Loop component is.
- 00:56 You'll see in a moment that we have a few different templates we can choose, and
- 01:00 when we send through a Loop component,
- 01:02 it means that everybody in this chat can edit it in line.
- 01:06 So we can basically now collaborate right inside a chat message.
- 01:10 So let's take a look at how this works.
- 01:13 Now, Loop components is one of the icons that you can see underneath
- 01:18 the new conversation box, and it is this one just here.
- 01:22 Now, if we click on this, notice we have a few different templates that we can use.
- 01:28 So for example, we might want to collaborate together on a bulleted list,
- 01:32 or a checklist, or a numbered list.
- 01:34 Maybe I want to send through a paragraph of text.
- 01:37 So that's particularly useful if maybe you're trying to do brainstorm
- 01:41 the introduction to a presentation with other people.
- 01:44 We could send a table or even a task list.
- 01:49 So what I'm going to do is,
- 01:51 we're going to create a bulleted list of ways that we can keep calm.
- 01:55 So currently, my bulleted list is in Draft status.
- 02:00 And next to that, I can choose the level of access to this Loop component.
- 02:06 So currently,
- 02:07 it's set to anybody in my organization with the link can edit this list.
- 02:12 But I could change that if I wanted to by clicking the drop down,
- 02:15 you can see I have a few different options in here.
- 02:18 So maybe I want to set this only to People currently in this chat.
- 02:22 So just me and Jen.
- 02:23 And I think that's going to be the most appropriate option for
- 02:27 this particular scenario.
- 02:29 I can even choose Specific people if I wanted to.
- 02:33 And you want to make sure that you allow editing if you want other people to be
- 02:37 able to make changes in line.
- 02:39 So let's click on Apply.
- 02:41 So the first thing I need to do here is add a title, and
- 02:45 now, I'm going to add my own ideas.
- 02:48 So now, I have my ideas written out in a bulleted list,
- 02:52 I'm going to send this through to Jen.
- 02:54 Notice that it loads up the Loop component.
- 02:58 Now, Loop components are saved automatically into OneDrive.
- 03:02 So make sure that when you are creating your Loop components,
- 03:06 you do give them a meaningful name so they're easy to identify later on.
- 03:11 And the name that this Loop component has been given is How to Keep Calm.
- 03:16 So now, Jen could go into this Loop component in her Microsoft Teams and
- 03:22 add her own ideas.
- 03:23 So now, Jen can open up this Loop component in her copy of Teams,
- 03:29 and she can also edit and add her own ideas to this bulleted list.
- 03:34 And you can see that I can see when Jen is accessing this list,
- 03:39 and I can see her edits in real time.
- 03:43 So this is truly a great way to collaborate and
- 03:46 brainstorm ideas whilst inside chats.
