Quick reference
Target Groups with Tags
Use tags to target messages toward specific groups of people.
When to use
We use tags when we want to direct a message toward specific groups of people that have been added to a tag.
Instructions
In Teams, we can create tags and assign people to those tags.
We might choose to create a tag for the 'Sales Team' and assign all salespeople to the tag. If we need to send a message to everyone on the sales team, we can use the tag.
We might create a tag for 'Project Team A' so we can send messages to everyone involved in the project.
As a team owner, we can specify who can create and manage tags in Teams.
Create Tags
Let's create a tag for the Marketing Team.
- Click the three dots next to the team name in the teams list.
- Click Manage tags.
- Click the Create tag button.
- Type 'Marketing' into the Tag name field.
- Add a Tag description (optional).
- Type the names of the people to add to the tag in the Add people field.
- Click Create.
Repeat this process to add more tags.
Manage Tags (Team Owners)
Any tabs we create will be categorized so we can see which tags have been assigned to us and which tags have been assigned to other people.
Team owners can manage the tags.
- Click the three dots next to the tag name.
From here we can start a chat with the tag members, edit the tag, create a copy of the tag or delete the tag.
Use Tags in a Conversation
Once we have set up tags, we can use them in conversations to direct our message to the tag members.
- Click the New conversation button.
- Type a message.
- Type the @ symbol and select the tag from the list.
- Click Send.
