In this video, I want to show you why and how you should group your items together.
-
00:09
So we have this diagram that we made with the table and the chairs.
-
00:13
So if I move one of those chairs,
-
00:16
then I'd have to realign all the other chairs again.
-
00:20
Or if I move the table, then I have to go and
-
00:22
move the chairs one by one the way it is right now.
-
00:26
So let's say I want to undo that so it's back to its original position.
-
00:32
So I want those chairs to stay kind of in the relative position with each other.
-
00:38
So I'm going to group them together.
-
00:40
So what that means is it's going to make one big object out of several objects.
-
00:46
So I'm going to highlight these different chairs.
-
00:48
I'm going to highlight all four of this.
-
00:51
And you can see they're all selected.
-
00:53
Now there's at least two ways I can group the items together.
-
00:57
So one way is under the Home menu.
-
00:59
If I pick on Home, I'll pick on the word Group, and
-
01:03
then I'll pick in the word Group again.
-
01:06
So notice what happened, that actually made that shape
-
01:10
into one big shape instead of being four individual shapes.
-
01:13
So now if I drag that chair, the other ones automatically come with it.
-
01:19
And you can see it's really one big shape now, all right?
-
01:22
So I'm actually going to undo that.
-
01:25
Watch again how we're going to group the items together.
-
01:27
I'm going to select these four chairs.
-
01:29
So I'm just going to draw a rectangle around those chairs with my mouse.
-
01:35
Good, and you can see how they're all selected.
-
01:38
So that time I went to the Home menu and I picked in the word Group.
-
01:42
Another way you can do it is you can right click on the shap, and
-
01:45
then pick in the word Group there and then I'll group it.
-
01:50
And now it made one big shape out of all four of those chairs.
-
01:54
So if I move one, the other ones automatically stay with it,
-
01:57
you see that's the whole purpose of there with the grouping.
-
02:00
But you can always ungroup it as well.
-
02:03
So what if I changed my mind, I want them to be back to individual shapes.
-
02:07
So this time I'm going to click on that shape and right click on it.
-
02:11
And then I can pick in the word Group, then I can say Ungroup, all right?
-
02:16
So I'll pick on Ungroup, and
-
02:18
now notice how they're back to being individual shapes again.
-
02:23
So you can pick a bunch of shapes.
-
02:25
Now in this case, I'm going to click on the table and the chair,
-
02:28
maybe that table and the chair always goes together.
-
02:31
So I'll pick on the table,
-
02:32
now another way to do a selection is to hold down your Shift key.
-
02:36
So holding the Shift key, and now both of those shapes are selected.
-
02:40
We can go back to the Home menu, and I'll pick on Group and then Group, good.
-
02:46
And then notice if I move the table that bottom chair automatically comes with it.
-
02:51
So you can see the benefit of grouping your items together because they stay
-
02:56
together in what becomes one big shape.
-
02:59
And when you're done with the group, or if you are done with it,
-
03:05
you can just right click on that shape, and then pick on Group and then Ungroup.
