Online Pics and 3D Models
This feature of inserting online pictures in Microsoft Word 365 takes you directly to the internet without leaving the Word program. It eliminates an entire process of confusing clicks.
When to use
When you are looking for any picture but do not have the right one in your own files, simply go to Online Pictures and find one that works for your project.
The 3D Models are rotating pictures that you can adjust accordingly in your document. Maybe you are a teacher or a scientist, these are ideal for getting the exact view of a diagram you need.
Instructions
Here's how to insert "Online Pictures":
- Click the Insert Ribbon
- Click Pictures, then ‘Online Pictures’
- Select a category and choose a picture that you would like to use.
- Click Insert
Note: by checking the box beside "Creative Commons" you ensure that the picture you choose has been approved for re-use, therefore no copyright infringement.
Here's how to insert "3D Models":
- Click the Insert Ribbon
- Click 3D Models
- Select a category and choose a 3D Model that you would like to use.
- Click Insert
- Click the inside section of the model, you'll see an internal spinner icon, then click and drag to spin the 3D model as you see fit.
- To change the overall size of the model, click the Pan and Zoom button on the new 3D Model Tools ribbon and select the new magnifying glass tool beside the outline handles on the model.
Note: the 3D models are incredibly large sizes and your document's file size will balloon! Instead of emailing these documents, it may be necessary to load them to a cloud drive or computer server to share.
Login to download- 00:04 We're going to do a couple of fun things with the online pics and 3D models.
- 00:08 This is actually a pretty cool lesson.
- 00:10 So, click on the Insert ribbon,
- 00:13 on Pictures, and we're going to go to Online Pictures.
- 00:16 And we were here once before for the clipart but
- 00:19 this time we're actually going to go for photographs and
- 00:21 I'm going to choose the Apple category right over here.
- 00:24 When I click the Apples,
- 00:26 notice Creative Commons simply means there's no copyright infringement.
- 00:30 If I uncheck that, then it's the luck of the click.
- 00:34 So I like to stay safe, always leaving the checkmark on the Creative Commons.
- 00:38 I'll go ahead and click this apple, and click Insert.
- 00:42 When the apple shows up on my screen,
- 00:45 it comes in with the author notation underneath.
- 00:48 Since we know it's an all clear, you might want to remove that statement.
- 00:52 So click inside the picture and there's a text box.
- 00:55 When you click on the edge of the text box, you can simply delete and
- 00:58 that portion will go away.
- 01:00 Now let's scroll down and put a 3D model of an apple on the screen.
- 01:04 Same place Insert, but this time, 3D Models.
- 01:08 We have animated models, all kinds of categories of models,
- 01:13 but I think I'll just get to the point and type apple.
- 01:17 I'll go ahead and select this particular 3D model of an apple and click Insert.
- 01:22 And this will take a little bit, so be patient.
- 01:25 When it lands on your screen, I'm going to immediately make a copy of it and
- 01:30 paste with a Ctrl C to copy, Ctrl V to paste.
- 01:32 Move it over to the side and you can already see the difference.
- 01:35 There's a spiny center, so I can click and drag and spin that around,
- 01:40 but that is a lot of work to do.
- 01:41 Up on top we have a 3D Model ribbon with a gallery full of different views.
- 01:46 And can you just float your mouse around and choose whichever one you'd like.
- 01:52 If at any time you want to reset it back to the original,
- 01:55 simply click the 3D Model and hit the Reset 3D.
- 01:58 Well now let's put another option in there.
- 02:00 I'll go to the second page and we're going to insert another 3D model.
- 02:05 Click on Insert, click on 3D Models, and this time we're going to put in
- 02:11 Animated Animals and love the little fish aquarium and click on Insert.
- 02:17 Again, this takes some time.
- 02:19 When the aquarium lands on your screen and you click on it,
- 02:23 you can see the little fish swimming around.
- 02:25 I can make that larger.
- 02:27 I can spin them to kind of reorder them inside the square which you can
- 02:32 hardly tell it's moving.
- 02:34 But I want to point out on the 3D Model ribbon up on top we have a Pan and
- 02:38 Zoom button.
- 02:39 And this allows us to come to the magnifying glass and click and
- 02:44 drag up to make the fish larger in the box or down to make them smaller in the box.
- 02:50 When you're done, just turn that off and the magnifying glass will go away.
- 02:54 Something important you need to know though, the file size increased greatly.
- 02:58 So let's go up to the File ribbon, on the Info button, and
- 03:02 notice the file size is 29.2 kilobytes because I haven't saved it.
- 03:08 I'll come over to the left and hit Save and watch that number change,
- 03:13 go back to File, Info and it went from 29 kilobytes to 62 megs.
- 03:18 That's a large file size.
- 03:19 You just need to be aware of that when you're playing with the 3D models.
- 03:23 They are great fun.
- 03:24 Please go ahead and use this file to add some 3D models and explore that area.
