Pre-Animated 3D Models
Inserting animated 3D models from the internet on your computer.
When to use
To animate one or more 3D models on a slide.
Instructions
- To open the Animation Pane: On the Animations tab, in the Advanced Animation group, click Animation Pane.
- 3D models can be animated with both 2D and 3D animations:
- 2D animations are Entrance, Emphasis, Exit, and Motion Path.
- 3D animations are:
- Entrance animation – Arrive.
- Emphasis animation – Turntable, Swing, or Jump & Turn.
- Exit animation – Leave.
- To select more than one object: Hold down the Ctrl key, click each model to select and then animate all of these objects together.
- Click an animation icon in the Animation gallery to apply that animation to one or more selected models.
- Clicking again on an animation icon in the Animation gallery will change the current animation on any selected object.
- If an object is already animated, click Add Animation to add an animation.
- Most animation types include Effect Options.
- Timing options include On Click, With Previous and After Previous.
- The duration of an animation can be changed, as can the timing delay.
- Animation timeline indicators in the Animation Pane can be used as sliders to move the animation.
- Click the start or finish of an animation entry in the timeline to change the start or finish time of that animation.
- Right-click an entry in the animation timeline for other effect or timing options.
- Options can be changed for multiple animations by selecting all of the appropriate animations in the timeline together. To do this:
- Hold down the Ctrl key and use the pointer to select animation entries that are not side-by-side.
- Use the pointer to select one animation entry, hold down the Shift key and select another entry: all animation entries between the first and last selection will be selected.
Also note:
3D animations can be combined with 2D animations on 3D Models. However, 3D animations can only be applied to selected 3D objects. Selection of a 2D object such as a shape, as well as the 3D object will hide any 3D animations in the Animation Gallery.
Renaming an object in the Selection and Visibility pane will rename that object in the animation timeline. Do this to reduce confusion when working with a complex series of animation entries in the Animation Pane.
It can be useful to use drawing guides or even drawn lines as cross hairs to help decide the end point of the animated motion path.
- 00:04 This is the second of two videos on inserting three dimensional models and
- 00:08 animating them.
- 00:09 And if we go to the Insert tab, the 3D Models split button from Online Sources,
- 00:15 PowerPoint goes away and loads the gallery in the background.
- 00:18 I'm trying to click on Animated Animals and
- 00:22 I'm going to select from this butterfly, click, and
- 00:26 then click Insert, PowerPoint goes away and loads that in the background.
- 00:29 How long it takes depends on the speed of your internet.
- 00:32 And now that three dimensional model is on a slide, and
- 00:35 we can see that it is indeed animating.
- 00:37 We can move it around, we can select from particular model views,
- 00:41 we can pause but also, we can select from scenes and these scenes one, two,
- 00:45 three are also available in our animations gallery.
- 00:49 So that is flying,
- 00:50 that particular scene seems to be resting with it's wings flapping a little bit.
- 00:55 On this scene is where the butterfly,
- 00:58 the size of it is going to flap it wings and it eventually gradually takes off.
- 01:04 So let's click on the flying scene that animation is added,
- 01:07 it is playing with previous.
- 01:10 We can move that over to where it's slide and even though that's a 3D animation.
- 01:15 Remember if we click here, we change the animation, but
- 01:19 let's add a two dimensional animation, more motion paths to the right.
- 01:24 Okay, we see a little bit of a preview, we'll make that go a little bit further
- 01:28 along, maybe five seconds, press Enter.
- 01:33 With previous, have a look at reading view.
- 01:36 And I have butterflies by flying and moving.
- 01:41 So we have a two dimensional and a three dimensional animation.
- 01:45 But we can also add another animations.
- 01:48 We can do a turntable where in the effect options.
- 01:51 We say it as a half spin, to the right, with previous and
- 01:57 we can say again five seconds per center, and let's play reading view.
- 02:04 The butterfly flies, and then it flies towards to the back and
- 02:07 seem to flap backwards.
- 02:09 Define the laws of physics.
- 02:11 So if we went to the left and play that.
- 02:17 It turns to the right and flies, and turns to fly backwards.
- 02:20 So that is a three dimensional model that is already animated, and
- 02:24 inputted into PowerPoint.
- 02:26 You can change the current animation.
- 02:29 Whether it be 3D or 2D, you can change the effect options
- 02:33 as well as add animations and build up some very clever presentations.
- 02:37 Well worth your time investigating and using.
