Login to download- 00:05 This video is titled Reset-the magic button, and it's not just about Ctrl Z,
- 00:09 which is the keyboard shortcut for undo.
- 00:12 Because undo is a very linear process.
- 00:14 You do something, and you do a second thing and a third thing and so on.
- 00:18 And then when you undo and go back from the third thing to the second and
- 00:22 undo again and keep going backwards, you are eventually run over undo's.
- 00:27 But that's a very linear process and sometimes when we go to have a particular
- 00:31 path in a presentation such as formatting images and you think to yourself.
- 00:36 It didn't really work out how I wanted and
- 00:38 I can't undo all that information because it just won't undo.
- 00:42 I've been somewhere else and I can't come back to where I was but
- 00:45 I don't want to close down the presentation or
- 00:47 either and lose all the information that I've worked on.
- 00:51 So in this video we will learn about resetting many things as it applies to
- 00:54 PowerPoint.
- 00:55 So for example here is a picture that I added to the slide.
- 00:59 And it all ready contains a range of formatting effects, and these are a frame,
- 01:04 a correction, a color, and artistic effects.
- 01:08 And you can open their presentation later and
- 01:10 view the effects that are applied to that image.
- 01:13 But if I go somewhere else on the presentation and come back,
- 01:16 fixing this is not going to be part of the undo sequence.
- 01:20 So let's go reset picture.
- 01:22 We can either drop the little arrow down and go reset the picture and size, or
- 01:26 just reset the picture.
- 01:28 And there it is back to its original state to start again.
- 01:32 Let's move down to the next slide to look at SmartArt.
- 01:36 I can change the shape field to red and
- 01:39 looking at the chart, I've added a bevel which looks horrible.
- 01:43 And so I'll click on the SmartArt there, and
- 01:47 then the Design tab and click on reset the graphic.
- 01:50 And there it is back to it's original format.
- 01:54 For the chart, we click Reset to match the style.
- 01:58 And the chart is back to its particular format.
- 02:00 With reset, you can do it in any particular order,
- 02:04 not just in the order that was originally done in.
- 02:08 So placeholders in layouts are the subjects of other videos
- 02:12 where we go into more detail about them.
- 02:14 But the picture on the slide has been rotated and
- 02:17 moved away from its original location.
- 02:20 I just right click, Reset Slide, and
- 02:23 the picture is back to its original location because it's in a placeholder.
- 02:27 If I delete the picture you can see the placeholder.
- 02:30 And I go Ctrl+Z which is the keyboard shortcut for undo and
- 02:33 that picture is back on the slide.
- 02:34 So undo is appropriate for many of the actions that we do in PowerPoint.
- 02:38 But not if we go away and come back and
- 02:40 wanna fix something that's not part of the sequence.
- 02:43 On the next slide I've added a little hatch formatting to the slide background.
- 02:48 And it looks quite horrible against the blue.
- 02:51 So in this case, it's not a case of simply resetting the slide.
- 02:55 Because that will change the placeholder, but not the background.
- 02:57 So I right-click on the slide and select Format Background.
- 03:01 And then the format background task pane appears.
- 03:05 Reset background, and now the slide's back to its original state. Video!
- 03:10 Here we have a simple video where the images is rotate.
- 03:13 But a great color has been applied to it, and it looks quite horrible.
- 03:17 So we select the video and go either reset the design and the size, but
- 03:21 I'll just reset the design.
- 03:23 And now it's back to how it was originally exported
- 03:26 out of PowerPoint ready to start formatting again.
- 03:30 A very important note, if you compress your presentation,
- 03:32 you may not be able to reset some images.
- 03:35 And if you optimize media such as videos, the reset options might not work.
- 03:41 We'll also look at theme colors but it's more about the dialog
- 03:43 box where you change those colors rather than the theme colors on the slide.
- 03:48 So on the Design tab click the little drop down arrow in the variance group, colors.
- 03:53 I've got a particular color set applied, but then I decide to customize it.
- 03:57 As I change the various colors it may all start to look a little awry, so
- 04:01 I click Reset and go back to what it was before we started.
- 04:04 And then we can make a decision about whether we want to save this or cancel it.
- 04:08 But note this feature works a bit more like undo,
- 04:11 with it you cannot undo anymore resets once you go out of this dialog box.
- 04:15 So again, this video is about to reset, it's a magic button,
- 04:18 keep an eye out for it, because it will save you so much time.
- 04:22 The really cool thing is that it even works if you save your presentation and
- 04:25 close it, and reopen it again later.
- 04:27 It's a feature well worth your time understanding and using.
