Hints & tips
- Remember creating the inbox is a great way to get started with Evernote
- You can continually grow your knowledge and insight into Evernote
- 00:04 Hello, everyone, welcome back to Essential Productivity.
- 00:07 I'm Francesco, and I'm your host for this GoSkills course.
- 00:11 So in today's feature we're going to be talking
- 00:14 about how you can maximize your Evernote experience.
- 00:17 I know a lot of people out there who use Evernote, and come across these features
- 00:22 and functions inside of Evernote, and really love the experience of using them.
- 00:26 And the main reason is it takes their existing productivity to a new level.
- 00:31 So we're gonna show you, now we've sort of gone over some of the basics
- 00:35 about how you can really maximize all of the little features inside of Evernote.
- 00:39 The first one I want to talk about is INBOX.
- 00:42 Now, this is a fairly new concept for Evernote users,
- 00:45 especially when they're getting started.
- 00:47 Because you're so used to setting up all the notebooks, and adding all the notes,
- 00:51 and sorting out all of your personal stuff and notes, that you missed this trick.
- 00:56 So essentially when you get started with Evernote,
- 00:58 when you create a new notebook, you have the ability to do a default notebook.
- 01:03 Got an INBOX here, what I've done here is I've clicked Notebook Settings.
- 01:07 And there's an option here which will be tickable,
- 01:09 obviously this is my default notebook, to say that, make this my default notebook.
- 01:14 Once you've done that, click Save, and maybe name it something like INBOX, and
- 01:18 have it outside of the existing stacks you have.
- 01:21 Once that's set up, anything that is emailed in, will come into this notebook,
- 01:26 or any notes that I'm typing away at during my day,
- 01:29 that I haven't necessarily organized just yet, will go in here.
- 01:32 These could be anything from ideas to meeting notes,
- 01:35 so that I can process them later.
- 01:37 This works as an additional inbox for any information and project details.
- 01:42 So for example, let me just send an email in.
- 01:46 So what I want to do is I want to store this email from a meditation application.
- 01:51 So all I do is I type in the specific Evernote email address,
- 01:55 which I will explain how to get in a minute.
- 01:57 Once you have that, you can quickly forward it in.
- 01:59 What I tend to do is remove some of this messy stuff at the start.
- 02:03 And just have the plain message there.
- 02:05 So this way I can actually get all of the links and information there,
- 02:08 so once I send that in, it would appear in my Evernote in a few minutes.
- 02:13 So as you can see, it's just arrived in my INBOX.
- 02:16 And I can open this up and see the full bleed of the email.
- 02:19 I can get everything from links and information.
- 02:21 And I can move it to any of the project folders that I need to.
- 02:25 So maybe I want to review this application for later.
- 02:27 So I'll store it in YouTube.
- 02:29 Once I move it, exit out, it will disappear from the inbox.
- 02:33 If someone sent over some images or attachments,
- 02:36 it will automatically import that into Evernote, which is a very useful tip.
- 02:42 So the way to get this is simply going to account information, and
- 02:47 then going down to more account settings, which will then take you to the website.
- 02:52 As you scroll down on the first page of the website,
- 02:54 you'll have the ability to email notes to and then be able to copy this email so
- 03:00 that you can send any email notes for the future.
- 03:03 Now email notes is one of my favorite features, so what I do, and
- 03:05 one of the other tips that I wanna mention, is shortcuts.
- 03:08 I store the INBOX at the top here, however, what you can do with any note,
- 03:13 notebook, or tag, is actually store any of them as shortcuts.
- 03:17 So for example, if I wanted to store all these questions for
- 03:21 OneNote as a shortcut for later, then all I have to do is Add Note to Shortcuts.
- 03:27 And as you can see, it appears, and I can move it around my shortcuts area,
- 03:30 which is pretty handy because I can quickly click into this and get access.
- 03:34 If I want to remove it from my shortcuts, all I have to do is click remove.
- 03:37 So it's a very handy way of quickly accessing information you need.
- 03:41 I need to access the Editorial Calendar a lot, so
- 03:43 I quickly access it through the shortcuts function.
- 03:46 The final advanced feature I want to mention is the Reminders function.
- 03:50 Not many people use the Reminders function, but
- 03:52 it's something I think that a lot of people should be aware of.
- 03:56 When I was traveling to France I had all of my information about what I was doing,
- 04:01 traveling to the bomb sites and not base jumping, that was just joke, and
- 04:05 all of the information about the ferry leaving times and tickets.
- 04:09 So I used the Reminders function at the top of the page.
- 04:12 When I had it, it had the ability to change dates.
- 04:15 Say for example I wanted to change the date and time, I can.
- 04:18 And it gives you this notify me ability there.
- 04:22 You can also mark as done as well.
- 04:23 So for example if I wanted to go back and tick this off, I can,
- 04:26 and it will cross it out which is good.
- 04:29 So it could be a way for you to quickly tick stuff off your to-do list.
- 04:32 And you could also clear the reminder as well if it's no longer relevant.
- 04:36 So these are all things that come in handy when you're trying to maximize your
- 04:39 Evernote experience.
- 04:41 I can imagine a lot of people haven't really touched on some of these, but they
- 04:44 can come in real handy when it comes to organizing your projects and activities.
- 04:48 I hoped you enjoyed this feature.
- 04:50 If you haven't checked out some of the previous ones, make sure to go over so
- 04:53 that you fully understand Evernote.
- 04:55 There will be an exercise that will cover this, and
- 04:58 maybe a few more tips, to add even more value to your Evernote experience.
- 05:02 I'll see you in the next feature.
- 05:03 Thank you very much.
