About this lesson
Consider these tips to ensure your voicemail will be welcoming and effective for any business calls.
- 00:04 Now, the other really, really big issue, and this is a great way
- 00:09 to get yourself taken off the list of someone seen as a rising star,
- 00:14 as an advancer, of someone that we shouldn't do business with.
- 00:19 It's when your voicemail is full.
- 00:24 And I realize some of you're saying, TJ, you're just so old, nobody uses voicemail.
- 00:28 I'm here to tell you, people use voicemail.
- 00:31 Maybe not your friends, maybe not the people you date.
- 00:34 Maybe not the people you socialize with.
- 00:36 Maybe not the people you graduated from college with in the last five years,
- 00:41 but people do like to leave voicemail.
- 00:44 If they've taken all the time and trouble to find your name,
- 00:48 find your phone number, dial, letting it ring,
- 00:52 hearing your message, they now want to leave a voicemail.
- 00:56 So if you've gone through all that effort, you've heard this big, long message and
- 01:01 then now you're ready to leave your message, and you hear this recording.
- 01:06 The person's voicemail is full and cannot accept new messages.
- 01:12 It is extraordinarily annoying.
- 01:15 I guarantee you your boss is not impressed.
- 01:19 Your new client is not impressed because now they've done all that work.
- 01:24 They have to hit end call and they've accomplished absolutely nothing but
- 01:30 wasting their time thanks to you.
- 01:33 So now they got to decide, do they want to text?
- 01:36 Well, believe it or not,
- 01:38 not everybody makes every single phone call from a cell phone.
- 01:42 And this will really shock some of you,
- 01:44 but I know plenty of people over 60 don't have smartphones.
- 01:48 They use flip phones.
- 01:49 They're not using text.
- 01:52 And if they need to get a hold of you and they're not near a computer because they
- 01:56 can't send email or texts for their phone, they're just out of luck.
- 02:03 Do you want to write off all those people?
- 02:05 You might not want to party or socialize with people over 60,
- 02:10 but they still have money.
- 02:12 And their money still works anyplace else you want to spend it.
- 02:17 So I'm begging you, have a voicemail.
- 02:23 Check your voicemail.
- 02:25 Have a personalized voicemail that is professional that states your name,
- 02:30 your organization.
- 02:33 Make sure you've taken all the voicemails out after you've heard them.
- 02:38 Delete it so there is space for new messages.
- 02:42 And then return the call.
- 02:45 If somebody calls you, call back.
- 02:49 Now here's the message to the old people, somebody texts you with a question,
- 02:52 text back to them.
- 02:54 Do this and you will be in great shape.
