About this lesson
Many voicemail systems allow you to re-record your message - take advantage of the opportunity.
- 00:04 Final important voicemail tip.
- 00:07 Many voicemail systems allow you to listen to it and redo it if you're not happy.
- 00:13 Very few people ever follow up on that, but do it.
- 00:16 Now you don't want to spend 10 hours listening and
- 00:19 redoing a simple message to your boss every day, it will eat up too much time.
- 00:24 But if it is someone who doesn't know you, where there's not a strong pre existing
- 00:29 relationship, a client prospect, maybe a brand new client, and you're not sure.
- 00:34 Maybe you had a bunch of uhs and ums.
- 00:38 Hit the button that allows you to listen to the message, and then hit the buttons
- 00:42 that says if you're not happy, hit this button, and re record it.
- 00:46 Keep recording it and listening to it until you're comfortable with it.
- 00:51 This alone should take some of the stress off.
- 00:53 A lot of times people get nervous, and that's when the ums come out.
- 00:58 If you know in advance it is voicemail, then it takes all the pressure off.
- 01:04 You can just redo it until you're happy with it.
- 01:09 Also, I should have mentioned this earlier, but it's critical.
- 01:12 So often these days, we're just assuming it's going to be voicemail.
- 01:16 We can't actually get a human being,
- 01:18 that we're often shocked to have an actual human being pick up.
- 01:22 That's the best of all possible worlds.
- 01:23 Don't say I was hoping to get your voicemail.
- 01:26 Use the opportunity,
- 01:28 be ready for the opportunity to say exactly what you wanted to say.
- 01:33 Don't make them hang up so you leave a voicemail.
- 01:35 That's awkward, and frankly, weird.
- 01:39 Don't do that.
- 01:40 Okay, here's your homework.
- 01:42 I need you to leave a voicemail on someone's phone and then call them up,
- 01:49 ask them to tell you what they think of your voicemail.
- 01:53 Get some feedback.
- 01:55 Get a critique from someone else, ideally in your place of business,
- 02:00 of what they think of the message you leave on your voicemail.
- 02:05 Please do that now.
