Instructions
To create a story, click the "New Story" icon at the bottom of the screen.
Resize the story in the same way you resize Dashboards.
Drag worksheets and dashboards onto the Story just like you did for Dashboards.
Add Story Points (slides) by clicking the "Blank" button on the New Story Point Panel to add as many slides as you like.
Hints & tips
- Stories are basically slide show presentations
- Add Story Points to Add additional "slides"
- Drag and drop your Worksheets and Dashboards onto each story point page.
- 00:04 Okay, in this video I want to talk about creating stories.
- 00:07 Now if we come down here to the bottom of this bar here, we see these three things.
- 00:11 And we remember the first one is to create a new worksheet.
- 00:14 The second one is we remember to create a new dashboard,
- 00:17 we hover have ever see new dashboard.
- 00:19 The third one is to create a new story.
- 00:21 And stories are sort of a combination of worksheets and
- 00:25 dashboards, think of them as a slideshow, right?
- 00:28 And you can add like I said, visualizations, worksheets and
- 00:32 dashboards into a coherent presentation, a story.
- 00:35 Then we can go up here and we can right click and
- 00:38 change the name of this if we want to My Dog Story, I don't know.
- 00:43 So we can apply that, boom, there it is.
- 00:46 And now same thing like with worksheets, we need to come down here and
- 00:49 sort of resize this guy.
- 00:50 So let me just change this to like 1600 by 964,
- 00:54 that's fine, or I want to change to 900 kind of sits in there.
- 01:00 And now just like everything else, you can drag and drop your worksheets,
- 01:04 your visualizations and your dashboards.
- 01:07 So let's start out with the dashboard that we just created. Let's use that images and
- 01:10 text one, we just bring it over, drop it in and there it is.
- 01:13 Now we can add a caption here.
- 01:15 So let's say: Dog Dashboard.
- 01:18 So this is our first story point.
- 01:20 Think of it as the first slide in your PowerPoint presentation,
- 01:23 and we can add the next one.
- 01:25 By come on over here and clicking on new story point, and then blank.
- 01:29 If you want to duplicate it, you can but we want a blank one.
- 01:32 So let's bring our dog breed worksheet in there, and boom, there it is.
- 01:37 And we can change this to dog breed.
- 01:42 There we go.
- 01:43 And now let's say we want another one so we can drop another one in and
- 01:46 let's do dog breeds with license.
- 01:48 Remember that has the, by whether they're spayed or neutered male or female,
- 01:52 so we can have that one in there.
- 01:54 So let's change this to dog breed by license type, okay.
- 02:02 So we've got a few of these and we can keep going if we wanted to,
- 02:06 we could add another one and say dog colors.
- 02:09 Remember, that's this guy, let's just say dog colors.
- 02:12 Now you'll notice you can sort of navigate around with this thing up here, right?
- 02:17 Or you can just move to the next one with these arrows.
- 02:22 So let's come to the beginning here.
- 02:23 And now to create this thing and to sort of start it,
- 02:26 we need to go into presentation mode.
- 02:28 So we come up to the top here and hover over this icon and
- 02:30 you see it says presentation mode.
- 02:32 So to go into presentation mode, either click this button, or you can click the f7
- 02:36 key at the top of your keyboard, probably just easiest to click this button.
- 02:39 You see it goes into full screen mode, very cool.
- 02:43 And now you can give your presentation.
- 02:45 You can project this up onto a screen or a big TV or laptop, whatever you have.
- 02:49 And you can talk and as you do you can go through and now it all works.
- 02:54 So we can click on the different things in our little legend menu thing here and
- 02:58 the things move around very nice.
- 03:01 And then go to the next one and we can see the different things and it's very cool.
- 03:06 And now how these act are how they act in the visualization.
- 03:09 So if you want this to act a different way,
- 03:11 you have to create it a different way in the visualization.
- 03:13 Once we're dragging and dropping it into the story, it's pretty much set,
- 03:16 we're not really going to be able to move it around.
- 03:19 Or resize it very much in this visualization.
- 03:22 As you can see, this pie chart is very small and just sort of right there, but
- 03:27 like everything, we can click on the different things, and it's really cool.
- 03:32 To get out of presentation mode, just hit the Escape key on your keyboard, and
- 03:36 then boom, it goes right back.
- 03:37 So those are stories, very cool,
- 03:39 very nice way to create sort of like a PowerPoint presentation.
- 03:42 Only obviously without using PowerPoint but it's the same look and
- 03:46 feel you have slides basically, the story points.
- 03:49 And you create new ones by clicking the blank button, and
- 03:51 that's really all there is to it.
- 03:53 So that's all for this video,
- 03:54 in the next video we'll look at opening up saved files.
