Reminders
Using reminders is a great way to avoid missing out on getting a task done. Reminders will help you to keep on track and provide a little nudge when you're in need of getting a task done. Reminders aren't solely time-based, they can be location orientated too, perfect for providing even more context to a task. Inside of Todoist, Reminders are currently locked as a Premium feature.
When to use
- To avoid forgetting tasks inside your Todoist account
- Plan ahead and never forget an upcoming deadline
Instructions
- Open Todoist
- Create a new task
- Select the options (three dots) on the right-hand side of the task
- Select "Reminders"
- Create a reminder using one of three options:
- Add a reminder to the task (for before the event)
- Add a time-based reminder via SMS, email or push notifications
- Add a location-based reminder for arrival or departure from a location
Hints & tips
- Remember Todoist Reminders are locked under Premium, this is subject to change
- A reminder can be used to keep you updated on all things (deadline, static tasks, lists)
- 00:04 Hello everyone, and welcome to this GoSkills course all about Todoist.
- 00:09 We are diving into some of the important task element side of stuff.
- 00:13 So we've already talked about the Todoist task itself, how you can use it,
- 00:18 the due date side of stuff, and now we're speaking about reminders.
- 00:23 Now before we dive in I'm using Todoist for Mac for
- 00:26 this feature because Todoist have locked reminders currently under premium.
- 00:33 So you guys will have to upgrade in order to access this function.
- 00:36 Please note that of course all of the premium functions aren't necessarily
- 00:41 set in stone so they're always changing and adapting, but
- 00:45 will include the plans information
- 00:47 as well as a premium page inside of the reference guide for you guys to go
- 00:51 away and explore because obviously we don't necessarily want you to upgrade.
- 00:55 But it's important to understand all of the reminders and
- 00:59 experiences that are inside of premium before you necessarily upgrade.
- 01:03 This is the Mac version, it's not all too different to the web version.
- 01:08 I have by ingredients as one of my items.
- 01:12 Now as you can imagine I've got it as Thursday at 10 AM, but you
- 01:15 can see here that once you click inside and edit a task, you can click reminders.
- 01:20 So this is how you set up your reminders.
- 01:22 Once you've notified yourself of the date and the information,
- 01:27 I already have a preset one here for SMS notification 30 minutes before it starts.
- 01:33 Now you can delete any of the existing ones and of course and any more.
- 01:38 So for example, you can firstly select a date and time.
- 01:43 You can select before the task, or even a location reminder.
- 01:47 In this case I actually want to set a location reminder and
- 01:51 I want to have it in the nearest Superstore.
- 01:54 So I'm going to type in Superstore Asda UK.
- 01:59 So I get to choose this one, and I have it to when I arrive, so
- 02:03 I'm going to get this one pop-up when I arrive at that Asda Superstore.
- 02:08 And that's really important because once I have that running,
- 02:12 essentially if I take myself off this, click Save,
- 02:16 you can see a reminder there has been created for when I arrived at that Asda.
- 02:20 So for example, let's take a demonstration.
- 02:22 I walk into that store, and
- 02:24 what happens is this lovely task pops up in front of me.
- 02:28 I can then buy the ingredients and remember all the relevant information.
- 02:32 So it's very handy if you're looking to go to a certain supermarket, or even for
- 02:37 a business meeting, or anything you like really.
- 02:40 Now there are other demonstrations.
- 02:42 If you wanted to, you can add a specific time and
- 02:45 date that you want to be reminded.
- 02:46 So for example, let's say you want to be reminded the day before at 7 PM so
- 02:50 that you're planning your day ahead.
- 02:53 If I click Add reminder, I will get an SMS notification at 7 PM on
- 02:57 the Wednesday before, which might be helpful in case I wanted to be nudged.
- 03:03 And then you're probably wondering, how do I change it from SMS notification?
- 03:07 Now you can get notified via email, push notification, SMS, and
- 03:11 you can edit the reminder settings inside our Settings cog in Todoist.
- 03:16 Now if I wanted to get an email, I could specifically set one for Wednesday.
- 03:21 And that's a short for Wednesday at 8 PM.
- 03:24 And I click that one, and that email will appear.
- 03:26 So I'm in no way going to be forgetting my reminders.
- 03:30 They all appear inside of this section here.
- 03:33 But reminders are a great way to keep yourself organized.
- 03:35 You can have multiple reminders, date-based reminders, before-you-arrive
- 03:40 reminders, and location-based reminders for when you arrive and leave a spot.
- 03:45 Hopefully that gave you a nice overview to reminders.
- 03:47 In the next feature we're going to dive into subtasks where we'll be back on
- 03:52 Todoist for web, and
- 03:53 we'll be explaining how you can use them to checklist certain items.
- 03:57 I'm looking forward to that and I will see you in the next feature.
- 04:00 Cheers.
