Quick reference
Priority Levels
Priority helps us to organize the most important tasks ranking them based on urgency. Inside Todoist, many people use the simple 3 core colors to see what they need to focus on and what are smaller, less valuable items to work on.
When to use
- For prioritising your new task list
- For planning ahead and organizing this week's goals
Instructions
- Open Todoist
- Create a New Task
- Add all the task details incl. due dates, projects, title
- Use P3, P2 or P1 to define the priority
- Use P3 as the lowest priority to highlight less important to-dos
- Use P2 as a medium urgency
- And use P1 as the most important activities
- Add to all tasks inside your to-do list
Hints & tips
- Always try to add an importance/urgency of a task
- Research more about prioritisation to improve your Todoist practice
- 00:05 Hello everyone and welcome back to this GoSkills course all about Todoist.
- 00:09 In this feature, we're going to touch on the priority levels which you can use
- 00:14 inside of your Todoist account to prioritize certain items in your list.
- 00:18 Now this is very valuable when it comes to using the Next 7 day tap.
- 00:22 Imagined that you've got your next seven days full of different tasks and
- 00:26 activities?
- 00:27 You're looking at it and you want be able to determine what the priority items for
- 00:31 the day are.
- 00:32 And of course, you will be able to do that using priority levels
- 00:35 which we'll explain in this feature.
- 00:37 So let's go back today area, I have got three core items for the day.
- 00:42 The most prioritized item is currently the 7 PM one, because I've put a time on it.
- 00:48 However, I want to actually redefine the priorities of these by giving it a color
- 00:52 indication.
- 00:53 To add a priority, all I have to do is click into a task, and
- 00:57 I can see a little flag that appears in the bottom right-hand corner.
- 01:01 Once I click in this flag, I get four core options.
- 01:04 I have white flag which essentially is no priority.
- 01:08 You can see here that all of the tasks we have inside this inbox so
- 01:11 far has a priority four with a white flag.
- 01:15 This essentially means it has no priority and
- 01:18 doesn't have any certain ranking inside of your Todoist account.
- 01:22 You have then got a yellow flag, which indicates priority three.
- 01:26 Now priority three is your lowest priority level that isn't the P4, and it allows
- 01:31 you to see that this is a low priority item, something that has low importance.
- 01:37 And will help you to navigate your account.
- 01:40 You've also got a priority two which is a medium level priority,
- 01:43 this will help you to determine whether it's a low priority or not.
- 01:48 So for example, medium one will indicate that is fairly important but not so
- 01:52 important that it indicates that it's a red priority.
- 01:56 The final area is red priority, it's priority one.
- 01:59 Priority one indicates that it is the most important thing in your list.
- 02:03 You can obviously have lots of these and
- 02:04 you don't necessarily have to dish them out sparingly.
- 02:07 However it will allow you to determine inside of your list,
- 02:11 which ones are the most important tasks.
- 02:13 So if I were to click party one and press save,
- 02:17 you could see that that is the most important item inside of my today.
- 02:21 You can see that it's red, and the tickable icon appears
- 02:25 a little bit differently to how it down here, and that's with no priority.
- 02:30 So I'm going to add two more here.
- 02:32 I'm going to add the medium to the COOK salmon because that's something that is
- 02:36 fairly important, and I'm going to add a yellow icon P3 to the clean house.
- 02:42 This helps to identify which one is the most important task of the day.
- 02:46 This is a very helpful indication, especially when you're at Next 7 days, and
- 02:50 for example, when you're going across a date and
- 02:52 you want to see your most important task.
- 02:54 Hopefully, that gave you a nice introduction to priority levels,
- 02:57 of course, you can use them inside and outside of your Todoist account.
- 03:00 And they are a great way to define which is your most important task.
- 03:04 I will see you next feature,
- 03:05 which will dive into shareable tasks inside of your Todoist account, cheers!
