3 Key Terms

- Cards - are displayed within lists and allows you to capture information within a single note.
- 00:05 Let’s get familiar with the Trello navigation menu,
- 00:09 along with three key terms we need to know when working with Trello.
- 00:14 Here we find ourselves at the Trello dashboard level, and on the dashboard
- 00:19 we see a list of all of the boards associated with our Trello account.
- 00:25 At the very top of this screen, you will see a section titled Starred Boards.
- 00:30 Here we have the opportunity to pin important boards
- 00:34 that we would like to see at the top of this list.
- 00:37 To star a board,
- 00:38 simply select the star icon in the top right-hand corner of any board.
- 00:44 And now, that board will be displayed in this list at the top of the screen.
- 00:49 If you do not wish a certain board to be displayed there,
- 00:51 simply select the star icon again.
- 00:55 Now if you want to return to the Trello dashboard view at anytime,
- 00:59 simply select the Trello icon at the very top of the screen.
- 01:04 Let's move to the left hand side where we find a Boards button.
- 01:08 Now at first glance,
- 01:10 you may think that this Boards button will also return us to this screen.
- 01:14 But it actually gives us a drop down menu,
- 01:17 which gives us another way of accessing our variety of boards.
- 01:22 It also gives us the ability to search for boards by name.
- 01:27 Next to the Boards button, we have the option to search.
- 01:31 And we can search for not only Trello boards but
- 01:34 also lists and cards within those Trello boards.
- 01:39 This can be a very powerful way of finding the information that you were looking for.
- 01:44 On the right-hand side of navigation menu, you will find a plus button.
- 01:51 This will give us the ability to create a new board, and
- 01:54 also create personal teams or a business team.
- 01:58 We will be taking a closer look at creating teams
- 02:01 a little later on in this course.
- 02:04 By selecting our avatar or our name, we'll have the options to
- 02:08 change our profile settings and see a list of cards that are assigned to us.
- 02:14 You can also find a list of shortcuts and access to the Help menu in this menu.
- 02:21 Next to it you will find a i for information button.
- 02:25 By selecting this button, Trello will give you a tip or
- 02:29 maybe notification of an upcoming webinar.
- 02:33 And you also find links to other parts of Trello such as a tour of the application,
- 02:38 and information about pricing and apps, and their regular blog.
- 02:43 Lastly, you will find a notification icon.
- 02:47 And this icon will turn red when you have a notification waiting for you.
- 02:52 And that's how we navigate around the Trello application.
- 02:57 Now to the three key words we need to be familiar with: boards, lists, and cards.
- 03:06 Here again, we see a list of all of our boards, and
- 03:09 you can think of a Trello board very much like a white board or a dry erase board.
- 03:15 A place to make notes or gather information and group them together.
- 03:21 And you can create as many Trello boards as you like.
- 03:25 Trello boards are independent of one another.
- 03:29 Let's click on this board and see what the inside of a board looks like.
- 03:34 Here we find the other two key terms that we need to be familiar with,
- 03:38 lists and cards.
- 03:41 In this particular example, we have three different lists,
- 03:45 Notes, Projects and Tasks.
- 03:49 Lists are displayed in vertical columns.
- 03:52 And you can add as many additional lists as you would like.
- 03:57 And within lists we find cards.
- 04:01 You can think of cards like a paper Post-it note,
- 04:04 where you can write information on the front of that note and
- 04:08 then move it around to where you desire it to be.
- 04:12 You can move your cards into different lists, and
- 04:16 you can also rearrange the order of your lists, as well.
- 04:21 So those are the three key terms we need to be familiar with within Trello.
- 04:26 A board which houses multiple lists.
- 04:31 And lists which house multiple cards.
- 04:35 Boards, lists and cards.
- 04:38 The three key terms we need to know within the Trello application.
