Login to download- 00:04 Now that we've learned the basic components of Trello.
- 00:07 What a board is, what a list is, and what a card is.
- 00:12 Let's take a look at how we can create cards and add a description.
- 00:17 To create a card in Trello, you will simply select the Add
- 00:20 a card link which will be found at the bottom of each list.
- 00:25 Even if your list already contains several cards,
- 00:28 you will always find this Add a card link at the very bottom.
- 00:32 By clicking this link, it will open up a blank
- 00:36 card name allowing you to enter information for that card.
- 00:41 Let's put in a few examples here.
- 00:42 I'm going to say Redesign website homepage.
- 00:47 I'm going to hit Enter on my keyboard, or I can select the green Add button,
- 00:50 and it will automatically open up another card for me to enter.
- 00:56 This makes it very quick for you to add a number of cards in succession.
- 01:00 I'm gonna say Write new book, and again I'm gonna select Enter on my keyboard.
- 01:06 Now Trello will always automatically open up another blank card for you to enter,
- 01:11 but you can simply click anywhere else on the Trello board to close that new field.
- 01:17 Now you can see the first two cards within this list.
- 01:21 Now, if you need to go back and change the name of your card,
- 01:25 you will wanna select the Edit icon found on the right.
- 01:29 By selecting that Edit icon,
- 01:31 the name of your card will automatically be highlighted.
- 01:35 And you can go in and change the name of that card.
- 01:38 Let's say we design website about page.
- 01:44 I can hit Enter again and now we've renamed that particular card.
- 01:49 It's important to note that if you want to rename that card to
- 01:52 make the selection here and not click on the card itself.
- 01:56 By clicking anywhere on the card other than the Edit icon,
- 02:00 you will open up the card.
- 02:02 And here we have many more options as to additional information and
- 02:07 additional details in which we can add to this card.
- 02:10 In the subsequent videos I'll be showing you how to add these additional features
- 02:16 and these additional pieces of information.
- 02:18 Now once your card is opened, you can also rename it here.
- 02:23 Simply click on the name of the card, and you will see a cursor.
- 02:27 So now we can change the name of this card once again.
- 02:31 I'm gonna change this to the contact page, and hit Enter.
- 02:36 Now, we can also have the ability to add further descriptions to this card.
- 02:41 It should be noted that the names of most Trello cards are usually kept
- 02:46 relatively short, and that's because you could be managing a lot of information
- 02:51 within a single Trello board.
- 02:54 Remember, you may have a board that contains seven or
- 02:57 more lists, and each list may contain 20 or more cards within them.
- 03:03 So it's usually recommended to have the name of your card kept relatively short,
- 03:08 perhaps to a single sentence.
- 03:11 But when we open up a card, we have the opportunity to add a description.
- 03:17 Here you see the Edit the description link.
- 03:20 By clicking on this link, we can add further details about this card.
- 03:25 We can say change name and picture for everyone.
- 03:32 Now I can add as much detail in this description pane as I would like.
- 03:36 Or I can just hit Save, and now I've got further information on this card.
- 03:41 And if we click outside of the card, you can see that there's a helpful icon
- 03:45 telling us that there is a description in this card.
- 03:48 Notice the difference between this first card where we have added a description.
- 03:53 And this second card where no description has been added yet.
- 03:57 I'm gonna open up this card one more time and click on the Edit description icon.
- 04:03 So I can either change what is there or add further information.
- 04:07 It's important to note that you can even add links within this description.
- 04:12 So just for example, I'm going to select or
- 04:16 input the Google home page, and I'm gonna hit Save.
- 04:20 And you will notice that we now have a clickable link that we can
- 04:25 access within the description.
- 04:27 So you can add links to webpages and
- 04:30 other things that you may want others, or yourself, to reference in the future.
- 04:34 This can make it very helpful as you manage these cards and
- 04:38 as you add further pieces of information.
- 04:41 So that is how you add a card to a Trello board, and
- 04:45 add further information in the description field.
