Uninstall Applications
Uninstall Windows 11 native apps and apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
When to use
We uninstall an application when we no longer have a use for it and want to save space.
Instructions
The process of uninstalling apps from our PC is a simple one but it differs depending on the app.
We need to make a distinction between two different types of apps in Windows 11. Some apps come pre-installed with the operating system. Some examples would be Calculator, Photos, Mail, etc.
Other apps might be ones we have downloaded from the Microsoft Store or a website.
Uninstall Store Apps
Let's first look at the simpler process: uninstalling apps we have downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
- Click the Start button or press the Win key.
- Type Netflix in the search bar.
- Right-click on the app and select Uninstall.
- Follow the prompts to uninstall.
This will remove the app from our PC.
Uninstall Windows 11 Apps
We can uninstall the apps that come with Windows 11 but the process is different.
- Go to Settings.
- Click on Apps in the left-hand menu.
- Click on Apps and features to see all installed apps.
We recommend using the Sort by drop-down and sorting the apps list by Size. This allows us to see which apps are taking up the most space.
- Find the app to uninstall in the Apps List.
- Click the three dots.
- Click Uninstall.
- 00:03 The process of uninstalling applications from Windows 11 is
- 00:07 a straightforward one but it does differ very slightly depending on the type of
- 00:12 app that you're trying to uninstall.
- 00:15 We need to make a distinction between Windows native apps and
- 00:19 third party applications.
- 00:21 So an example of a Windows native app would be something like mail or photos or
- 00:26 calculator, whereas a third party installed app would be something
- 00:31 that we've downloaded from the store, like Netflix or Photoshop.
- 00:35 So let's take a look at how we can uninstall applications that we've
- 00:39 downloaded from the Microsoft Store, first of all,
- 00:43 because that is the simpler process.
- 00:45 So all I need to do here is press the Windows key and find the application.
- 00:51 So let's uninstall Netflix.
- 00:53 What I'm going to do is click in the search bar at the top and
- 00:57 type in Netflix to find the app.
- 00:59 Once I've found it in the list, all I need to do is right-click, and
- 01:03 right at the bottom, we have an option to Uninstall.
- 01:06 So let's click this.
- 01:08 I'm going to confirm that that's exactly what I want to do and
- 01:12 it's going to uninstall that application from my system.
- 01:15 So now if I click the Windows key and search for Netflix,
- 01:20 it doesn't actually find the app.
- 01:23 It's basically directing me towards the website so
- 01:27 I know that that application has gone.
- 01:29 So that is really straightforward.
- 01:31 Find the app, right-click, Uninstall.
- 01:34 But what about Windows-native applications?
- 01:37 Well, for this, we need to jump into Settings.
- 01:40 So I'm going to go for the Windows logo key again and let's open up Settings.
- 01:45 Now for this, we need to choose Apps from the left-hand menu.
- 01:49 And if we jump into Apps and features, this is
- 01:52 going to show us all of the applications that we have installed on our PC.
- 01:57 So we can install things other than Windows native applications from here
- 02:01 as well.
- 02:01 So things like Adobe Acrobat, you can see that I also have Photoshop here as well,
- 02:07 along with those Windows native apps.
- 02:09 Now I'm not going to actually do this because I don't want to uninstall any of
- 02:14 the native apps, but if for example I never use the calculator,
- 02:17 I could find it in the list.
- 02:19 Click the three dots.
- 02:20 And we have an Uninstall option just here.
- 02:23 And you'll find that with all of these in this list, just click the three dots and
- 02:28 you can uninstall.
- 02:29 And I find this entire process so much easier in Windows 11
- 02:32 as opposed to Windows 10, which seemed to be a little bit more fiddly.
- 02:37 But that is it, very simple, very straightforward,
- 02:39 that's how you uninstall applications from your Windows operating system.
