When to use
Controlling the Print Settings is important in saving paper and ink when printing. Use these features every time you have special instructions for the printer.
Instructions
Click or CTRL + P
- Select the number of copies to print.
- Select the Printer to use; should be already set up on your computer system.
Under Settings:
- Print All Pages
or Print Current Page
; the Current Page is the one on the Preview screen at the time you click PRINT.
Custom Print allows you to be choosy about which pages:
To print pages 1 “through” 3, type “1-3”
To print page 1 “and” 3, type “1, 3” - Print One Sided is the most common setting, unless your printer has the ability to print both sides at once.
- To print multiple pages on a sheet, click “1 Page Per Sheet” and the options will open above that button. Make your choice and click Print. Note: By clicking “2 pages per sheet”, you will print a single-sided booklet of your document.
Tips:
CTRL + Page Down will let you jump down to next page
CTRL + Page UP will let you jump up to next page
CTRL + HOME will take you to the top of the document
- 00:02 Hello.
- 00:05 In this document, this exercise, I wanna show you how to get very particular
- 00:09 about what you're sending to your printer.
- 00:12 This will help you save paper and save ink if you're in total control.
- 00:16 First of all, I do have four pages on my screen,
- 00:19 I want you to look at them very quickly, please locate your Page Down button on
- 00:23 your keyboard, hold down Control on the keyboard and tap Page Down and
- 00:27 that just zooms you to the top of page two, page three, and page four.
- 00:32 Control Home will take you to the top of the entire document, and
- 00:35 now we're gonna go into the print features.
- 00:38 Now Control P stands for print.
- 00:40 That'll get you there,
- 00:41 but you can also get there by clicking file and clicking on Print.
- 00:45 When we're in here we do have a Print Preview.
- 00:48 It is a confirmation, I've got four pages, and over here on the scroll bar,
- 00:52 I can just click down and it'll jump from page one to four.
- 00:55 So I can view and make sure these other ones I want to see.
- 00:59 Now I'm currently viewing page two on my screen.
- 01:02 Over here in my print settings,
- 01:03 I can just send this to printer but notice, it's going to print all pages.
- 01:08 I can tell it how many copies.
- 01:10 One copy of this set, two, or 100 copies.
- 01:14 And it'll go to the printer I have selected.
- 01:16 When you hit your drop down arrow, you'll see a variety of other printers in there.
- 01:20 One of them now is the Adobe PDF,
- 01:22 you can actually send to an Adobe printer to give it PDF copy.
- 01:27 Now I can print one sided, print on both sides or manually print on both sides.
- 01:33 Now these are features that you would have to have on your printer.
- 01:37 My printer is not capable of printing both sides, so I won't even try.
- 01:42 Collated simply means do you want them to print as page one, two, three and
- 01:46 four, or do you want to print page one,
- 01:49 one, one, then page two, two, two, then page three, three, three?
- 01:53 Which would require you to put the sets together after the printing is done.
- 01:58 Generally the default setting is collated.
- 02:02 We also have portrait orientation or
- 02:04 landscape orientation, cuz you can change how this prints.
- 02:08 It doesn't change the page settings as in a previous video,
- 02:11 it simply changes how they print on the paper you've got loaded.
- 02:15 What I want to show you mostly is the settings right here.
- 02:19 Print all pages or
- 02:20 just the current page, by choosing current page, I'm only going to print page two.
- 02:25 Whatever one is on my preview screen.
- 02:28 What if I want to print page one through three?
- 02:35 Then I type 1-3.
- 02:36 And notice what happened right above.
- 02:40 It said Current Page a moment ago, but as soon as I started typing into this box,
- 02:44 it immediately changed itself to custom print, and that's fine.
- 02:48 What if I just want a page, to print page one and three.
- 02:53 I type a one, comma, three and it knows that that comma means and.
- 02:59 So you can go ahead and change the print settings as you want.
- 03:03 Just to view everything, I'm going to very quickly turn this back to print all pages,
- 03:08 cuz there's a little hidden feature right down here called 1 Page Per Sheet.
- 03:14 You could actually change this to print two Pages Per Sheet.
- 03:18 Or maybe you'd like to print four Pages Per Sheet.
- 03:22 After you've got that chosen, when you send this to the printer,
- 03:26 all four pages of this document will print on one sheet.
- 03:30 Now if I sent it two Pages Per Sheet,
- 03:33 that is how you print a little booklet of your document.
- 03:38 It's very nice, actually.
- 03:39 It's a nice little hidden feature.
- 03:41 If you've never used it, you should give it a try.
- 03:43 It's very nice.
- 03:45 Alright, with that said I'll go ahead and hit print and finish this.
- 03:49 If you decide in the meantime you don't wanna finish printing and you wanna go
- 03:52 back to your document, simply hit the back arrow on the top of the screen, and
- 03:57 that'll take you back to your document and you can decide what to do from here.
- 04:01 Okay, I hope that helps you with your printing controls.
