Reinforce Team Capabilities
A team working together is a very powerful too. Reinforce and acknowledge the things your team is doing well to keep them doing a good job.
When to use
You should always reinforce your team’s capabilities to keep your team working together towards the desired outcome.
Instructions
Reinforce your team capabilities. There is no force more powerful than that of a cohesive team. When team self-esteem is up so is the productivity.
- Reinforce what the team is doing well and exceling at.
- Re-assign positions as need be to capitalize on your team member’s strengths. Put your team members where they will be most effective for your team to work cohesively and get you to your goal.
- Point out the potential that you see in your team members. As a leader, you might see a potential in a team member that they don’t see in themselves.
- Give your team members verbal or written acknowledgement. We all have a need to be acknowledged or needed. As a leader, if you just give your team members that acknowledgement when they do something well they will feel needed and will keep up the good work.
- When it comes to innovation, make it ok for your team members to fail. If you don’t change and innovate your company won’t succeed. What worked in the past won’t always work in the future. You have to let your team experiment to see what will keep your team and company successful.
- 00:04 In this video, we're talking about reinforcing your team's capabilities.
- 00:09 Reinforce your team capabilities.
- 00:11 Because here's what I tell my clients.
- 00:13 There is no force more powerful than that of a cohesive team.
- 00:19 And when team self-esteem is up, so is your productivity.
- 00:24 So we want to reinforce what they're doing well and excel at, okay?
- 00:29 And we want to reassign positions as need be to capitalize on your team
- 00:34 members strengths, right?
- 00:36 If your team, remember that example that I used in one of the other videos,
- 00:40 they took an accountant and put them in customer service?
- 00:43 Okay, not the best use of that person's capabilities.
- 00:46 Right?
- 00:47 So as you get to know your team members, and their strengths and
- 00:51 their capabilities, put them where they're going to be most effective for
- 00:56 your team to work cohesively and get you guys to your goal.
- 00:59 Next, you want to point out the potential that we see in the team member.
- 01:05 As a coach,
- 01:05 sometimes I see potential in my clients that they don't even see in themselves.
- 01:10 So there's that supportive aspect of hey, you've got these capabilities, right?
- 01:16 And sometimes we have to make ourselves these coaches, right?
- 01:19 And when we're leaders, we have to coach them.
- 01:21 Hey, you're great at X, Y and Z.
- 01:24 That's why you're in this position.
- 01:26 Let's see what you got, okay?
- 01:29 And next, verbal or written acknowledgment.
- 01:33 We all have a need as humans to be acknowledged, don't we?
- 01:38 There's something in us that wants to have some sort of acknowledgment,
- 01:42 either big or small.
- 01:43 And if it's not acknowledgment, at least to be needed.
- 01:46 So what's great as leaders,
- 01:48 if we just give those people a little something verbal like hey, nice work.
- 01:53 Or write a little note, hey, great job on that project.
- 01:57 Now we're starting to build that relationship, and
- 02:00 those little things go a long way, right?
- 02:03 Because remember in one of the earlier videos we talked about what our team
- 02:06 members want.
- 02:07 They wanna be cared for.
- 02:08 They wanna feel like you care.
- 02:10 So when they do something well, reinforce that behavior.
- 02:15 Hey, nice work, great presentation last week, good job in closing X deal.
- 02:21 Okay, these things, we get bogged down with so much that we do, but
- 02:25 when we remember to do this stuff and
- 02:27 take care of our team, it's going to help us get done what we need to get done.
- 02:32 Okay?
- 02:33 Awesome.
- 02:34 And when it comes to innovation, this is big.
- 02:37 We touched on this slightly before.
- 02:39 Make it okay for them to fail.
- 02:42 Within limits, of course, but if you do not change and
- 02:46 innovate in your company, your organization is done.
- 02:50 In the next video, we're gonna look at a couple examples of that, okay?
- 02:54 Because here's what's real, here's what we know about business.
- 02:57 What worked in the past will not always work in the future.
- 03:02 Okay?
- 03:03 And especially if we get an authoritative mindset and
- 03:07 style of leadership, it's very hard to change those, isn't it?
- 03:13 There's a lot of red tape that goes into changing that stuff.
- 03:15 So we really need to start taking a look at that and saying, okay,
- 03:18 well even if we're working within those confines,
- 03:21 let's set up some guidelines so that hey, they can experiment, right?
- 03:25 To set up an experimental department, maybe, where that's all they're doing,
- 03:29 is trying and failing all day, right?
- 03:32 And they're in the little lab making things happen, okay?
- 03:36 Good.
- 03:36 So let's recap reinforced team capabilities.
- 03:40 There is no force more powerful than that of a cohesive team.
- 03:44 And when your team self-esteem is up, so is your productivity.
- 03:48 That's what's important.
- 03:50 So you want to reinforce what they're doing well and excel at, and
- 03:54 reassign positions as needed to capitalize on those team members' strengths.
- 03:59 And then you want to point out the potential that we see in each team member,
- 04:04 right?
- 04:05 Because we may see potential in our staff that they don't see in themselves.
- 04:09 Give them verbal or written acknowledgement.
- 04:12 Make them feel cared for, right?
- 04:15 Nice work, great job on X project last week.
- 04:18 And when innovating, make it okay to fail, within limits, right?
- 04:22 Because if we don't change and innovate, our organization is done, all right?
- 04:28 Good stuff.
- 04:29 You guys got this.
- 04:30 We'll see you in the next video.
