- Click the Format icon underneath the message.
- Click the trash can icon to delete the message.
Hints & tips
- Other team members cannot see when you edit or delete a message.
- 00:04 Sometimes mistakes happen.
- 00:06 Maybe, we've sent a message through that is riddled with spelling errors.
- 00:11 Or maybe it's simply just does'nt have the correct tone.
- 00:15 Or if in my case, I've sent a message through to Ben where I
- 00:20 meant to say HR Hub and I've accidentally put HR Hun.
- 00:24 Now as much as I like Ben, I don't really want to refer to him as hun.
- 00:30 So I'm probably going to want to either delete that message or edit it.
- 00:35 Now because he is just one simple spelling error, I'm probably not going to want to
- 00:40 delete the entire message, instead I can simply edit it, and make the correction.
- 00:44 So, how do we edit messages that we've already sent through to a channel?
- 00:49 Well, it's very straightforward.
- 00:52 If we hover our mouse over the message, notice all the way over on
- 00:57 the right hand side next to the emojis, we have three dots.
- 01:01 If we click on these three dots, we're going to get that contextual menu pop up
- 01:06 where we have a few different options.
- 01:08 And the second option down is to edit our message.
- 01:12 So this is going to put me into editing mode and
- 01:15 I can make any corrections that I need.
- 01:18 So I'm definitely going to want to change that n to a b.
- 01:21 Once you've made all of the corrections, you can either cancel the changes that
- 01:26 you've made by clicking on the cross or you can accept them.
- 01:30 So I'm going to click on Done and that message has now been updated.
- 01:34 So really straightforward to edit messages whether we've sent them through or not.
- 01:40 Now, what about deleting messages?
- 01:42 Maybe I now decide that I want to delete this message that I've just sent
- 01:46 through to Ben.
- 01:47 Because maybe at the same time that I was writing this message out,
- 01:52 I received an email from him confirming that yes,
- 01:56 he has had Michael deleted from the HR Hub.
- 01:59 So now my message is kind of obsolete.
- 02:02 Well, we can delete our messages.
- 02:06 Once again if we hover over the message and click on the three dots,
- 02:10 the third option down in this menu is to delete.
- 02:14 And when you do delete a message, you're going to see that you get this little
- 02:18 notification that says the message has been deleted in the team channel.
- 02:22 Now don't fear, you're the only one who sees that message,
- 02:26 it's not visible to other channel members.
- 02:29 So they're not going to know if you have or haven't deleted a message.
- 02:33 Now at this stage if I was to decide that I actually do want that message back,
- 02:38 I also have an Undo button just here.
- 02:40 And if I click on that Undo button,
- 02:42 it's going to put that message back into the the feed.
- 02:45 So that's how you can delete messages that you've already sent through.
- 02:50 But what about deleting messages that maybe you are halfway through composing?
- 02:54 Let's take a look at that.
- 02:56 So I'm going to start a new conversation.
- 02:59 Now I'm halfway through a message to Jen.
- 03:02 Now, maybe at this stage, I think actually, you know what?
- 03:05 I don't need to send this through, how can I delete the message?
- 03:09 Well I could highlight everything and just press the Delete key.
- 03:13 Or alternatively I can open up the format area.
- 03:16 So this is the first icon that you can see underneath the message.
- 03:21 And if we click this, it opens up a more detailed area where we can
- 03:26 actually go in and start applying formatting to our messages.
- 03:31 Now again,
- 03:32 this is something we're going to discuss in more detail a bit later on.
- 03:35 But this is also where you come if you want to delete a message that you're half
- 03:39 way through composing.
- 03:41 Notice that all the way over on the right hand side we have a little trashcan icon.
- 03:46 So if I click on this and say yes discard this draft,
- 03:52 that message is going to disappear.
