Work with the Teams Mobile App
Work with Teams on the go using the Teams Mobile App for IOS and Android.
When to use
We use the Teams mobile app whenever we are not in the office or at our desk but want to stay in contact with our team.
Instructions
The Teams mobile app is available for download for IOS and Android. It helps us stay in contact with our team when we aren't in the office or at our desk.
The app is intuitive and not too dissimilar from the desktop version.
Download the Mobile App
- Click on the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- Click Download the mobile app.
- Enter your email address.
- Click Send.
A download link will be sent to our email. Open the email on the phone and click the link to download Teams. Alternatively, we can search for Teams in Apple or Google Play Store and download it that way.
The Teams Mobile App
- Open the mobile app.
Across the bottom of the app, we find the different parts of Teams: Activity, Chat, Teams, Calendar, Calls, and More.
Activity
This is where we can see our activity feed. Everything that is happening in Teams is logged here. We can click the 3 lines in the top right-hand corner to filter our activity feed.
Chat
This is where private conversations take place. We can see a log of previous conversations and can start a new conversation by clicking the New conversation icon in the top right-hand corner.
Teams
We can see a list of the Teams we are a member of here. We can see the team channels and click the three dots to open up a menu that allows us to manage members, manage tags, manage channels, leave a team, edit a team or delete a team.
We can create a new team by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Calendar
This will show our calendar and any upcoming meetings. We can open and edit calendar appointments and join meetings from here.
When we join a meeting from our mobile, the interface is very similar to joining a meeting in the desktop version. We can apply a background effect, and choose if we want our camera off or on. Once in the meeting, we can share our screen, record, turn live captions on, etc.
Calls
We can access our call history from here and make and receive calls.
More
Click the More button to add apps to Teams.
Settings
Click on your profile photo to access settings, set a status message, and turn notifications on.
Hints & tips
- Quick commands are not available in the Teams mobile app.
- When using Teams on our phone, we have access to many more emojis.
- 00:04 In the final lesson of this course,
- 00:07 we're going to take a quick whistlestop tour of the team's mobile app.
- 00:12 And I highly recommend that you download the mobile app so that you can
- 00:16 communicate, stay in touch, join meetings with your team, whilst you're on the go.
- 00:22 And I've had the mobile app on my phone for a number of years, and
- 00:26 I find it really useful.
- 00:27 It's pretty intuitive and not too dissimilar from the team's web or
- 00:31 desktop app that we've been taking a look at in this course.
- 00:34 So don't think you're going to find too many problems navigating around, but
- 00:39 just so you get an idea as to the look and feel and some of the functionality.
- 00:43 I'm going to do my best to record a screen recording of my phone, and
- 00:47 we'll take a little tour.
- 00:49 Now before we get to that stage, let's talk about how we download the mobile
- 00:54 app because you can do this effectively from your team's desktop.
- 00:58 So if we click on the three dots, notice we have a download the mobile app link.
- 01:04 So if we click on this, it's going to ask us to enter in our email address, and
- 01:10 teams is going to send us a link which we can open on our phone to download the app.
- 01:16 Alternatively, you can jump on to the apple store for iOS or
- 01:20 the play store for Android, search for Teams and download the app that way.
- 01:26 And I'm pretty sure that most of us know how to download apps
- 01:29 onto our phone these days.
- 01:31 So once you have that downloaded, open it up and
- 01:34 we're going to take a quick tour now.
- 01:37 So I'm logged into Teams on my mobile phone as Ben, and
- 01:40 you can see his little profile picture in the top left hand corner.
- 01:44 And by default, I've been taken to the activity feed.
- 01:48 So this is very similar to the activity feed that you have in Teams desktop.
- 01:53 We can see all of the activity on Ben's Teams.
- 01:57 You can see where I've mentioned him when he's been added to channels,
- 02:01 when people have sent likes or even at mentioned him.
- 02:04 And notice at the bottom, we currently have activity selected.
- 02:08 In the top right hand corner, we have a little filter area.
- 02:13 So we can filter for unread messages, we can filter for mentions, we can filter for
- 02:19 replies, reactions, missed calls, voicemails all of these good things.
- 02:24 So don't forget about that little button in the top corner.
- 02:28 Now that I'm filtering for mentions, I'm just seeing those, and
- 02:32 if I want to remove that search, I can simply close Mentions.
- 02:36 We have a search bar in the top, we can type for specific search terms.
- 02:41 One thing you can't do in the mobile app is it won't allow you to type in
- 02:46 that forward slash to see those quick commands, so just be aware of that.
- 02:51 So, let's move on to Chat.
- 02:53 You can see we've got three notifications showing in there.
- 02:57 So, this is where all private conversations or group conversations
- 03:02 take place, and you can see some of the previous ones in there.
- 03:06 If we want to start a new conversation with somebody, and
- 03:10 that might be one or more people.
- 03:13 We can click on the new conversation button at the top and
- 03:17 then simply enter in who we want to chat with.
- 03:20 So maybe he wants to chat with James, and Jen, and then we can type in a message.
- 03:26 Remember when you're using Teams on your phone,
- 03:30 you have access to way more emojis, stickers, gifs, and fun things.
- 03:35 So I'm going to add a little smiley just here, and let's send that through.
- 03:43 The next button is the Teams button.
- 03:45 So this is where we can come to see all of the teams that we're a member of.
- 03:51 And notice that for some of these teams, we have new messages showing,
- 03:54 we also have some exclamation points.
- 03:56 So that tells us channels that contain important messages.
- 04:01 And if I click on sales, I know that that important message is
- 04:05 that announcement because we marked it as high importance.
- 04:09 We can still do many of the things that we can do in the Teams desktop app.
- 04:13 We can click the three dots and we have access to do things like manage members,
- 04:18 manage tags, manage teams, so on and so forth.
- 04:21 And we can also create new teams from here as well by clicking
- 04:25 the + symbol at the top.
- 04:27 So we can create a new team, we can browse for teams,
- 04:31 or we can join a team with a code.
- 04:34 And if we click the cog icon at the top here, we can select which teams we
- 04:38 want to show in our teams list, so we don't necessarily have to have them all.
- 04:43 I'm actually going to show all of them, let's select social committee, and
- 04:48 then go back to our team's list.
- 04:50 We have access to add calendar just here, where we can see any upcoming meetings and
- 04:56 we can also join meetings from here as well.
- 04:59 So if I click on Join,
- 05:00 I get pretty much the same thing as if I was joining through the desktop app.
- 05:06 I can choose to add a background effects.
- 05:08 If I want to blur my background, I can do that.
- 05:11 I can control if I want my video and my microphone off or on.
- 05:16 And then I can simply choose join.
- 05:19 And effectively, I'm now in the meeting.
- 05:22 I can access things like the chat panel, I can see the participants.
- 05:32 And then if I click the three dots, I can do things like send reactions,
- 05:38 turn on live captions, or even start recording.
- 05:42 And if I want to do things like share my mobile screen, I can even do that from
- 05:46 here as well, because I have a share button at the top here.
- 05:49 So I can choose to share PowerPoint, share a photo, share my screen, or
- 05:54 even share a Whiteboard.
- 05:55 So the experience is pretty much replicated on the mobile app.
- 06:00 When you want to leave a meeting, we can simply hang up, and
- 06:04 it's going to take us back to the calendar.
- 06:07 I can access my call history from here, and make new calls.
- 06:11 And then finally if we click on the More button,
- 06:14 this is where we can come to add additional apps.
- 06:18 If we click on our profile photo,
- 06:20 this is where we can do things like change our status, set a status message,
- 06:25 and also access our settings and what's new in Teams.
- 06:29 So that is a very quick whistlestop tour of the Teams mobile app.
- 06:34 And I'm using Teams on an Apple iPhone, so this is the app for iOS.
- 06:39 So the Team's mobile app is a great way to
- 06:43 keep on top of your work when you're on the go.
